I have an iPac that I bought awhile ago from a member of a local coin-op forum.
I packed it away as I didn't need it right away.
So anyway I pull it out now (PayPal protection long long gone).... not working !
It's the USB version and the 1st thing I noticed is the LED light does not come on.
I tested it on 2 different PC's.
Says the device is not recognized.

Any thoguhts, advice, where to start ?

I'd like to think this could be fixed.

Thanks all

Have you checked Ultimarc's website or email Andy for help?

From his website:

Problem: In USB mode, the I-PAC was not detected properly once before and now I can't get it out of this state.

You will need to remove it from Windows and let it re-detect. Go into Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Hardware. Open up the USB controller by clicking on the plus sign next to it. Under this heading will be displayed all the USB devices. Right click on all devices one by one except the controller itself and Root Hubs and select "uninstall". Now unplug and re-plug the I-PAC. It should be re-detected.
Problem: In USB mode, it is only detected as "Unknown Device" or "device has a problem".

Under certain conditions, shorted inputs can cause this, or inputs that are held at 5 volts. This may happen either because of a wiring error (see steps for checking this, above) or the I-PAC inputs being connected to something other than an open-circuit switch. If you need to connect non-switch devices please email for advice.

I followed the steps as posted by SilverEagle (thanks), but no dice !
I also installed the Legacy Utility from the site, but nothing.
As I said I don't get the green LED on the iPac lighting up.
So possibly it is not getting any power ?
Could be the cable, however I have no extra cable to be sure.
However I did test this on two different PC's and the PC does detect an item was plugged in.
(so I assume that means the cable is ok ?)

I opened note pad and pressed some buttons, wanted to see if I would get any reading.
For example 1 and 2 player start and credit should result in the numbers 1, 2 and 5 showing up. NO DICE !

I just ordered another VE off Andy, and he did respond to me saying he'd take a look at it.
So I figure for a few bucks I'll send it back.

My luck has been very bad as of late with parts, projects, etc.

Another thing; is the USB cable that plugs into the ipac making a full connection? I know the USB port on the ipac is set back a bit so it comes with a custom cable that has part of the molding on the connector cut away so it plugs in fully.

Checked the connection, all good ! Nice and tight.
Results however the same. Nothing !
Device not recognized and nothing registering any result in note pad.

One last thing, the ipac cannot be used with any type of USB adaptor, it must be used with the dedicated Ultimarc USB or PS2 cable, no adaptors! So if it's PS2, you must plug it into a computer PS2 connection AND have a PS2 keyboard plugged into the other PS2 connection on the ipac.
These things have a low failure rate, don't hear about these breaking often...
Good luck!

I'll snap a pic of the wire and post it.
I'm sure its the correct wire, I've never needed to buy one of these prior.
(So I can't see any reason I'd have two)

I think this is just pooched !
Doesn't seem much is behind an iPac, so I'm quite shocked it failed.
But I guess anything is possible.
Now I know why the seller was selling it !!!!

You can mail it to ultimarc and they will most likely repair and return. I had a gun once that the programming got trashed (probably by me) and he fixed it :)

I had actually emailed Andy asking for a possible idea as to what was wrong......... which I know was a shot in the dark ! Andy did advise me I could send it back @ he would take a look at it. He did advise me if its older (and I think it is) that the chip is nolonger available.

I ordered a VE iPac for now. But I will indeed mail this back today.
I figure for the $5/10 it cost to send it back its worth it.
If its shot its shot, but as is I'm out the money I paid anyway.

I'm @ work right now so I can't post a pic, but I do suspect its older.

Andy said this is the older unit, so 50/50 chance it could be the IC chip.
The IC chips however are not available.
So $10 I just sent it back.........fingers crossed !!!!

Man, my post office lady is soooooooooooo tight ! She measures every lil thing ! Even in the lil bubble mailer..........ah well !

Ipac enroute to the UK.........as I said fingers crossed.

Thanks all for the help
