I have no sound on this game, pulled the speaker it's a 15w 8ohm speaker

I have some stupid little 2 watt 8 ohm speakers, plugged one of them in, and definitely became aware of sounds all of a sudden but it wasn't playing game sounds. Honestly I don't know what the game sounds are supposed to sound like, but 2 questions:

1. would this not play on my 2 watt 8ohm speaker
2. where do you get these replacement speakers?

bump-where can a guy get a replacement speaker?

radio shack? lol

What's the part number?

well I don't have the manual (could probably find it online?)

the speaker has a number of : 15298

it says 8ohm 15 w

it's about 9-9/12"wide and 5-6" high

I got a replacement for my KI1 from Kittybeater (arcade boneyard) just give him the specs you need and size.

your 2watt should work ok at low/medium volume for some time tho.

I think you can also get them from marco/another pin supply place.

I'd need to see the speaker, but if you Google 8 ohm 15 watt speaker, a bunch of them come up.

Any decent speaker will work, as long as it is within the power rating.

Putting a 2 watt speaker in a 15 watt amplifier output will fry the speaker if the volume is set high enough to exceed the 2 watt rating.

The voice coil is what typically goes, although I have seen some situations where it blows the voice coil off the paper connection to the speaker. Once. With a teenager.

Post a picture (is it a circle, oval, what?) and I'll see what I can find. You can also try various electronic places like Radio Shack, Mouser, etc.

well I have a 5 w 8ohm speaker in there and the volume of the game turned down to 16%.

Funny issue though. I go into test mode and I get the beep as I scroll through my options, good, that sounds normal (beep is the wrong word, but it makes noise). Go into sound diagnostic, good, passes, no issues. Go into hearing individual sounds, boom, voices, sounds, etc.

Then it cuts out, no sounds no voices even in test mode. fuck

go into game mode, sound is back, for 3 seconds then cuts off again.

I've got some random sound issue that isn't apparent in the diagnostic and the speaker is working.

I just put a new fan inside and changed a few caps on this power supply and it seems to be rock solid with the +5 and +12

well the -5 is rock solid too.

just not getting sounds. Maybe once I get a 15w speaker I will have better luck.

ok I just installed a 4ohm 25w speaker and it has the same issues. Intermittent sound

works then cuts out. typically when it cuts out it doesn't come back on.

-5, +12 and +5 are all steady with sound and without

anyone have any ideas?

when I am in test mode, it makes the bump sound as I scroll which is correct. If it goes out, (bump sound) which it does, going back to sound test (which says GOOD) brings the sound back.

game start up, good sound, then disappear after 1-10 seconds, never to return

I have a little crappy 2W (or so) 8ohm speaker on my test bench. As long as you're keeping the volume turned down to reasonable levels, it doesn't really matter what the power rating is. I only need it turned up enough to hear it from 2 ft away in a quiet room, so it's adequate for everything I've ever tested. [For that matter, I don't really care if the original was designed for a 4 ohm speaker... it'll just be a bit quieter than if I has a 4 ohm speaker hooked up.]

Anyhow, can't really speculate beyond checking voltages and looking for damage on the PCB until the game is named.

well the manual didn't help me

anyone know the position of the clock chip (if this exists) and the replacement? I sure would love to buy this at the shack or frys and do this now.

the yellow led is blinking slowly (sound led) which means it's running normal

in SYSTEM TEST MODE- the clock passes the self test, only in BURN IN TEST does the CLOCK show ERROR05

Led number 2 says it's suppsed to be flashing (I think), it's on page 57 of the manual, it is solid green no flash right now, but the game runs fine-aside from the sound issue.

the games name is:

INVASION the abductor (MIDWAY)

well heck, check that:

now that I checked again the yellow led is just solid meaning (by manual definition-LOCKED UP)

Sorry. Never heard of it, so I didn't recognize it from the thread title.

This is much newer than I tend to work on. However, I doubt the "clock error" is related to the sound error. I'm thinking the "clock error" relates to the Timekeeper date/time chip.

Unfortunately, there were no schematics in the linked document, so I don't really have any idea how the sound system works.

somewhere I read that it's the same pcb as mk4 with a rom swap.

yeah, I know nothing about how these things work. I have 1 problem and the game has 1 error, figured I'd at least try to fix that error and go from there.

I had an invasion (conversion in an nba cab) that had an intermittent sound issue. Did you check voltage at the board, not PS? Iirc, I had a bad JAMMA harness. Can you try the board in another JAMMA cab?

yeah I suppose I can do that. I considered it, but didn't get to it yet.
all voltages are measured at the board and are spot on.
