Interview w/ Mark Turmell (Designer for Smash T.V, NBA Jam, NFL Blitz)
Nintendo Power does these "Power Profiles" in every issue where they interview past/current figures of the video game industry.
This month's issue is an interview with Mark Turmell who is currently the Senior Creative Director at EA Tiburon. He is the guy who designed Sneakers on the Apple II, a handful of games for the Atari VCS, and a bunch of arcade games during the 90s. Most notably Smash T.V., NBA Jam and NFL Blitz.
There's some cool discussion on his experiences developing arcade games, his views of the fall of arcades and the gamers that he hopes to reach by reviving games like NBA Jam for current consoles.
Even if you don't subscribe, I highly recommend checking it out. It's a fun read.
Here is a quote where he talks about one of the reasons why he feels arcades dwindled:
"Arcades began to die off when developers stopped innovating!...It was sad to see most of the arcades close up."
