Long story short i spent an hour on the phone yesterday with the "as I titled him" CL SPAM whore. I actually feel bad referring to him as that now knowing he really is a decent person out to make a few HONEST bucks.

Jump back a few days. April 1st someone posted a "Late husbands pins need to go $400 each" ad. I hate to admit this but I thought Gozer was pulling some shenanigans and he and I always poke fun at each others CL ads so I sent an email stating "Have a few questions please call".

Going back to yesterdays phone conversation with "Jeff" he brought up the, "Late husband" ad. He told me it was a buddy of his that did this to gauge just how much interest there is in pinball, who is looking and who is possible flipping.
Ok - so gozer sorry I thought it was you lol.

Does anyone else think that's a poopy thing to do?

Sounds like someone not to trust. Placing an ad and wasting people's time 'just to gauge interest' is starting out jerky, but then using the pretense of the death of a loved one - come on, what are these guys, former used car salesmen fired for unethical conduct?

If someone wants to know what there shit is worth just call a business in the related field. Anyone worth a anything will help give you a price on what it is you have. I work for a place that sells games and if someone calls me asking about a specific game price I will tell them what A. I would pay for it being a retailer.
B. What a collector/tech would pay for it. <at least a good guesstimate.>
C. What you probably could get off CL.

Most people are very happy when I give them this info.

Ive done this before on a fishing rod I got for free and wanted to sell. A guy a Bass Pro Shop told me how much to expect. People dont have to be an ass and waste others time just to gauge interest or price.

That's about on a par with the phone call I got the other day due to an ad where it was stated that "the monitor has been professionally rebuilt recently". The person called on the ad, then proceeded to tell them about how they had a game with a dead monitor and wanted to know who rebuilt it. Wasn't interested in buying the game at all.

And then the seller gave the guy MY phone number :)rolleyes:). I had to tell the seller not to give my number to just anybody, and to get a number and then call me and let ME call HIM if I so desire....

Interesting. Also would make sense when we see these great deals and nobody ever seems to come up with them.
