I went to a camp this summer with my son and saw 2 arcade games there that were off - Off Road and Prop Cycle (also had a working centipede). I decided to email the camp when I got home. The guy I contacted was anxious to trade them for something else. I listed what I was willing to part with and said I could also get a list of games from other collectors if he wanted. But he immediately said he wanted to trade the two for my Champ Sprint.
He said the Off Road actually worked but they weren't turning it on because of the scantily clad women (not family friendly). I wasn't too concerned about that because I was considering this to be future trade bait anyway. However, I discovered later that you can put them in shorts and shirts through the settings. The camp people never discovered that despite having the manual (first game I've gotten that came with a manual). The game needs a cap kit and has quite a bit of screen burn so it could use a tube swap too. Otherwise working great. And so far it seems like my family is enjoying it much more than Champ Sprint so who knows? Maybe it'll stay a while (too bad it's so big).
Prop Cycle didn't work and he didn't have any info on symptoms. I figured what the heck? My family and I had played it several times at CAX and figured it would be a fun project at least, even if I didn't end up keeping it long term. I'll be posting shortly in the monitor repair forum about the monitor issues (edit: repair thread is here), but the game was also resetting frequently and it turned out the +5v supply was quite high. Dropped it to a bit under 5.1v and it's totally stable now. So the rear projection TV is the only issue. Fortunately it's a consumer TV (standard res) so worst case scenario I can just throw another TV in there. Fun game!
Anyway, I tried to educate the guy about keeping the game running (fuses, connector oxidation issues, test mode) and told him he can always contact me if they ever have problems or just want to buy/sell/trade. He was really happy to gain a knowledgeable resource as well as replace 2 games that for all intents and purposes weren't working with 1 working one.
The story gets a bit better still. The camp is about 2.5 hours away from me and since I've been lacking free time lately I didn't know how I'd schedule time to go get the games, not to mention that I'd have to rent a trailer due to the size of Prop Cycle. Turns out it was convenient for the guy to bring them right to my house. First time I haven't had to travel to get a game. Cool!
Champ Sprint is the first game I've gotten rid of. As much as I didn't like the game, I found it hard to let go of for some strange reason. But I'm over that now. The game room is pretty packed now unfortunately although I was able to come up with a layout I'm really happy with. As soon as Gozer does a model of the Prop Cycle I'll update my sketchup 3d animation video.
How many people can say they have a Leland row???
