First is that the flyer version of the Midway Pac-Man looks like it has a Japanese style joystick with a white plastic sheeth around the shaft and a small black ball top.

Also the t molding is textured black instead of the orange like most of us remember:

Second is that Namco of America had a Flyer marketing the Japanese cabinets for the USA market. Maybe this was before Midway Licensed them?

Take away from these: photos in flyers may not represent what is actually shipped out to customers.

There is a more to it than that. The joystick in pretty interesting, I wish I could see a closer up look at it.

I wonder if there are photos of the prototype from the trade shows back in 1980.

Looks like even on the cocktail the characters and text are outlined in white rather than black.

Even the Ms. Pac flyer depicts a slightly different cabinet. Look at all the extra 'shading' around everything.

I believe the first ~800 Ms. Pacs had the alternate front but the regular sides.

That and I have always loved the Namco version of the Galaxian side art.

You can see the two cockpits of the bug space ship. Looks like those guys are out for a fun cruise of the galaxy. Then some asshole in a spaceship has to go and blast them! :D

Ever notice how the player's ship in Galaxian is chasing the Galaxians and they have to break formation and turn around to attack? :D

for what it's worth, just because you see it in a promo flyer doesn't mean that a game ever left the factory looking like that

by that line of reasoning, this is an original factory photo, where - having been dropped of by her butler - Ms. Pac is going to personally inspect her eponymous game before it leaves the factory:

I'm not saying that, but obviously, cabinet existed in order to be photographed at least, most likely a prototype.

Of course the Japanese Galaga cabinet in the flyer was just a tiny model, even though the cabinet actually existed too.

You can tell is it a tiny model if you look closely, like the side art would be really thick if it were life sided.

What, no love for the cabaret differences? Totally different CP, two-tone marquee retainers, cabinet sides cut differently around the CP, looks like maybe a different monitor angle (Gorf style?), too.
