Interesting Pac Man Article

Wow! I think I need to turn on my Pac-Man now. I may never look at the gameplay the same way. The info about how the ghosts select their target is very interesting and hopefully useful. I've noticed the ghosts reversing direction, I thought it was just random. I didn't think there was a pattern or reason to it. I also noticed that when I get killed by Clyde, its usually in the lower left section of the maze.

As an owner of a Ms Pac and teacher of video game design and development this article struck me multiple ways. Best read I've had online in awhile, thanks!

I played my Pac after reading this and I didn't play the same way as I usually do. I really kept an eye out for the behaviors mentioned in the article. If you know what to look for it can really help you out. I have noticed some of the behaviors previously but did not know why/when/how the occured. Very helpful. I haven't played my Ms. Pac in a while, I wonder if the same behaviors apply.

I thoroughly enjoyed this article. A very entertaining read, especially for someone like myself who is obsessed with Pac-Man. Thank you for sharing!!

Ms Pac is pretty much the same as far as AI goes. It doesn't have the scatter modes like Pac-Man does, only at the very beginning of a level (or another life, if you just died). After they start pursuing you, they're always after you. They do another reversal while in chase mode, and one more again if you stay on a level for about 18 minutes. Also, Blinky and Pinky doesn't have their upper targets at the start, they go randomly, so that's why patterns don't work on Ms Pac (they would otherwise). Also, even though the orange one is called Sue, she acts exactly the same as Clyde.

I tried the "Made By Namco" trick on my Ms. Pac and it works there as well. Nothing too special, just more nerd trivia :)

Cool article, thanks for posting. Want to see it applied now while playing!
