History: Monitor works, but colors are dim - especially red. You can see them all and have a full picture.
So, I decide to do a cap kit on the chassis tonight. While replacing the caps, I notice that the flyback is not original (good) and that most caps are original, but a few have been changed at some point (look a little newer). One of the caps that were changed was C511.
Now, C511 is supposed to be a 47uF 160v cap (200v if using a cap kit). What was in there was a lot smaller than it should be, and I found a 10uF 200v cap in that spot.
What's interesting is that the monitor worked fine with the improper cap (minus the dim colors). If I had seen it earlier, I would have changed only that cap back to the proper size to see what (if any) difference it made.
Anyway, I changed all the caps and a broken horizontal width coil, rejuved the tube, and I have a great looking picture now....
