Just throwing this out there.. Would there be any interest in a reproduction of the SW cockpit bezel?

It's a biggie, looks like chrome and black stripes. From what I can tell, it appears that the original piece is a silver mylar cardboard with the black stripes screened on top. I am going to experiment and see if I can make a replacement that is a nice replacement. Perhaps stenciled black on top of mylar cardboard. This would be labor intensive, just putting feelers out there. I have my original to use as a template.

Thanks-

I need to pull mine out and look.
proably is the silver board same as the backing used in a tron blacklight
look for the part# and see if its silver as well this would indicate if it where screened black
I know some of the other bezels were so this wouldnt be any different other than the silver board.
but it might be easier to apply vinyl chrome stripping to black

I made one for my machine, just black with chrome tape. I still have a ton of the tape if anyone is interested.

I have made them before. Used black board, masked off with 1/4" masking tape, spray paint the silver, then assemble. Originals and repros shown below. They are not that hard to make. Just a bit time consuming. Once they are behind the smoked glass, it is nearly impossible to tell the difference. I still have my original templates.

I masked off the area for the lines putting masking for all rows (including the black to get straight lines)

Then remove the tape for only the silver lines.

Finished, then assemble.

I can't/won't screen it, so it won't be an exact type reproduction, but need a replacement for my machine. I'm going to try to make it black on mylar, same as original, instead of putting mylar stripes on black. Also, 4 pieces, so can ship/assemble. I'll get started on it this week.

I used the KK method above to recreate mine. He was nice enough to supply instructions and templates which I have forwarded on in a pay-it-forward way to Don1400, I believe...

Well, I found that you can buy the chrome/mylar sheets at Hobby Lobby. However, that would have to be laminated to cardboard. I'm thinking that I will make a replacement, at least for my project. My idea is laminate the mylar to cardboard, using 3M spray contact adhesive, then cut the size, the mask and spray the black layer. Sounds like a lot of work! I hope to work on the prototype next week.

Any chance you will be making bezels in the future for SW uprights? Mine is missing completely!

I unfortunately don't have an original to go off of. If someone wants to mail me their rough one, I will send them back it and a replacement one as compensation for me getting the pattern.

I'd be in for a SW cockpit bezel.
