My friend and I are converting an DOT cut off version back into an EDOT. He's missing quite a few parts. I need to borrow a foam rubber bumper from someone so I can duplicate it. I would need to borrow it for 3 days to make the mold. It would not be harmed in the process. I'm looking for a "perfect" specimen since all duplicated parts will have every flaw that exists on the original. They will be cast in a firm foam rubber and skinned with a durable elastomer skin. They will be cast with aluminum strips in the side panels to support the screws.

Lead time....2 weeks to start shipping. Estimated cost per $45+shipping. ($90 per set, assuming we can get enough people on the interest list)

Two questions:
1. Do you have a good foam rubber bumper I can borrow for a few days? In return for the loan, I will give you two new sets of bumpers back.
2. Is there any interest in these rubber bumpers? Should I bother doing a run?

BTW: Discs of Tron is rad.

Interest List:

2. p1899m
3. supertechnoboy
4. fizgig
5. mjenison
6. khabbi

This is the bumper I'm speaking of....
Lead time would be two weeks to start shipping. They will be cast in a firm foam rubber and skinned with elastomer skin. We make training weapons for military and police. These bumpers would be made in a similar fashion.

I would definitely buy a set if available. One of mine looks like a dog has chewed it. I'd have to look again but my other one might be in the condition of the one you show in the pic. I think it's likely dusty but with minimal if any damage. Although I do need to take another look to be sure.

Dust definitely isn't a problem. The one in the picture was from earlier this year. I should have borrowed one of those but I didn't imagine that I wouldn't be able to find them for my friend's EDOT.

Ok I'll take a closer look at the one i have in good condition and probably snap some pics as well so you can see if it looks to be in good enough condition.

That would be great. I appreciate it very much. This will be a quick and easy project. :)

I am absolutely interested in a set. I've been looking for these for quite a while.

I guess you know that the originals were molded over a steel channel-shaped skeleton. Since you're going to all the trouble to re-mold these, have you considered using a similar skeleton? I have a "bad" one that could be stripped to get the dimensions from the skeleton, or even better, member OU Flight has the original drawings.

Either way, count me in for a set.

I've never actually had one that was off the machine. I can certainly cast them with a steel channel in them. Aluminum channel might be better for weight and ease of drilling out the holes.

Either way is fine with me. Steel or aluminum, they will both last the same.

Here is what they look like on the inside:

Sure. Easy enough. I can use steel if everyone would like. It's cheaper anyway.

close ups to show damage/imperfection
Not sure if I'd actually call this first pic a damaged area or just where the end of the black coating stops and the foam is showing

obviously some wear and slight degradation here . In person this area where the damage is is maybe a 1/4 in could probably be filled with something before a cast was made to fix the imperfection

the worst damage is this crack. I'm pretty sure I can use glue and a clamp to put this back together leaving only a hair line crack where the seam of the crack is.

So not sure if someone else has a better one available or if mine could be useable but that's what I've got.

The open corners might be an issue for molding. Maybe I should consider recreating the master from scratch.

P1899m...would you mind letting me borrow yours? I will make a one piece mold so not to destroy your original. I'll cast a new master in low shrinkage plastic and do the repairs on that master. I'll then do a new set of molds to make the castings.

I might have a pristine set available for molding. If someone can give me an actual measurement of the steel armature channel cast into the part, that would be helpful.

Were these just held on by drywall screws? Looks like a drywall screw to me.

Hmmm. Oddly enough. The channel is a bit of a problem. The wall thickness and size are not common. The armatures used in the originals might have been custom stamped/formed. I hate to think so but I'm still searching.
