I've recently ordered a repro Star Wars cockpit cabinet from DPtwiz so I've been on the lookout for all the metal pieces needed to put it together. As was expected, these are not easy to find so I contacted takeman about doing a run of repro metal for a SW cockpit cabinet. Troy said he has the bandwidth to handle this, but we need to get at least 20 orders to make this work. Right now, I'm thinking the kit will consist of:

-upper and lower attraction panel (marquee) brackets
-the two brackets to secure the canopy plexi
-four speaker grills
-two cabinet vent grills

The one piece that has not been finalized is the aluminum angle piece at the seat bend. That one going to be too expensive to reproduce so I've been trying to locate a suitable replacement. So far the only option I've come up with is in the attached pictures. It doesn't have the same profile as the orginal, but I think it would work. I've ordered a sample and I'm going to try it for fit this weekend so I'll post my results soon. Let me know what you think of this as a substitute. If anyone knows of a good source for something closer to the original though, please let me know.

One last note before I kick off the interest list. Of the pieces listed above, I have been able to locate all of them except the upper attraction panel bracket. If you have one that you would be willing to loan to Troy to repro, please PM me.

That's about it. I don't have a price for this yet, but none of these are complicated pieces (seat bend excluded) so it will probably be in line with the same price per piece as Troy's other repro kits. Please let me know if you would be interested in a kit and I'll start this list.

I am for sure interested in at least one set, more depending on price. Can you post a picture of the original seat piece for reference?

Great idea, something I want to do is to get a DPtwiz cockpit cut too, as you know though dude I'm in the UK and I have had problems finding any local CNC places willing to take on small requests.

I was very fortunate though, and managed to find someone who had a complete stack of cockpit parts as the cab has perished outside under a drain :(

The only parts I am lacking are the speaker grills, but I do have Troys Space Duel speaker grills so these could be used instead, very close match.

I did do some research though, especially regarding the seat corner peice which is indeed made of aluminium.

What I found is that cabs like ROTJ and I-Robot uprights also use these corner pieces on the front of the cabs.

The example of the ROTJ cab below is an Irish example, seems the corner piece is split in two. However, I noticed that the US examples are all one piece and not split :)

if you did the CP would that be all the metal pieces? I can't get to the cockpit i have here to look right now.

ROTJ, I,Robot and firefox all use this same extrusion.

It would help interest to determine what other games that speaker grills and vent grills were used on. I believe that same size vent grill was used on quite a few cabinets. More than likely, I'd pick up a couple of those.

Could I make a suggestion to add the 2 small metal floor plates to this kit if Troy can make them.

Rich,

I don't think those are original. I don't see them called out anywhere in the manual. If there's interest for something like that though, I'm OK with including it in the kit.

Yes, the control panel is the only other piece of metal that I can see. I didn't think of including it because those seem to be a little easier to come by. If there is enough interest, I have an original and could include it in the kit as an option. What does everyone think? Is there enough interest for adding a CP or possibly making it a separately ordered item all together?

Those corner pieces in EclipseEye's post are identical to the seat corner. As you can see, the originals have more of a 45 degree angle to them where as the one I found is squared off with only a slight 45 degree angle.

the cockpit control panel isn't the same as an upright, i never see them for sale.

You stated the CP was easy to get. You do know that those are different then the upright?

HAHAHA you thought of the same thing as I did.

Yes, I know they are different. I was referring to the fact that I've managed to find a few of these in the past whereas I have never come across a full set of metal pieces for the cabinet. Maybe I've just been lucky.

anything is possible if you throw enough money at it :D

Saturday bump! C'mon guys....there have got to be more of you out there that are thinking of building a Star Wars cockpit.

One last attempt

This isn't looking good. With the cockpits, the artwork and the canopy plexi pieces all becoming available, I would have thought there would be more interest in this. I'll give this one more bump for anyone who might have missed it over the weekend.

Anyone?
