Been thinking about this project for some time as I know there are a lot of red Neo Geos out there and most have burnt and cracked CPOs.

We're considering printing the red CPOs for the single slot and 2-slot machines. Wanted to get a show of interested on either of these and also have a few questions:

Are there more than two different red versions out there? I know the 1-slot does not have a game select button hole. Any other variations I don't know about?

Any thoughts on thickness, should the be made a little thicker than the original to prevent cracking?

Does anybody know if this has been done (aside from Arcadeoverlays)?

These would be screen printed on plexi and look just like the originals, I haven't seen Arcadeoverlays version, but I imagine they won't be nearly as nice as what I'm planning.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,
Anthony

I have a MVS-4-25 v1 that could use a new overlay. I'm not certain, but I believe it has the same CPO as the MVS-2-25. If what you're making will fit my cabinet, I'd be interested (well, depending on price).

Any chance you'd do the gold ones for the woodgrain 2 slot cabs? I don't know that there is enough interest to justify it, but there are a few of these cabs around. I'd happily loan you the (banged up, but not destroyed) CPO from mine.

2 and 4 slot CPOs

I have this one on my V1 4 slot machine

Shown here installed. I put plexi over it

Their's is the only one available but it's unlike the original. I think that all V1-3, 2-4 slots use the CPO. I put a NOS one on my V3 and it came out very nice. The problem is that they are not very durable. There are on like 1/32" material. The screened graphics flake off very easy and often times get stuck right to the CP so you can't really get them off easy. They also lift in different areas and need double sided tape to keep them down on installation. They warp with any heat also.

If you make a new one, I may be in for a few of these. It should be thicker than the original. I think the vector art is available.

I could use one for my V1 4 Slot. I also think thicker would be better. Mine is actually in good shape, but it annoys me that it wont lay completely flat. Maybe 3/32" would be a good thickness?

At this point I want to focus on the red ones, probably the 2-4 slot version as they seem to be pretty common and a good place to start.

Are there any different versions for the 2-4 slot CPO in red?

Anthony

+1 on thicker and more durable.. I have a 4 slot with speakers on top (v3?). I would grab one. A friend might be interested in 2 or 3 (v2?).

There might be interest in other versions as well.

The Neo Geo MVS 2 "gold" woodgrain cab uses a different sized CPO, as well as color than the others.

There are plenty of 6 slot owners who might a large one.

Also, I have never seen a repro for the 2 slot mini 13" cab. There might be enough interest in that as well.

I have two MvS-4 cabs that need one (Version 1 and Version 3). There is definitely a market for this, since I've yet to find a routed MVS whose overlay is not snapped/cracked/torn.

I'm going to be honest and say I am just "interested". Price and the quality of the final product are going to be the big motivators in getting me to commit.

Sorry for the delay in responding, I'm going to get them priced out for 2/4 slot version on thicker plexi. I suspect they would retail for $45-60, printing on plexi is usually not cheap, but it has been a while since I had it quoted.

I'm getting this quoted now, I don't think it will come in at $60 a piece, probably $50 if not a little less.

The question I have is regarding thickness. The original thickness was 0.035" and I have quote right now for a overlay that would be 0.060", so nearly twice as thick. However the sample I have still isn't what I would call "thick", but definitely heavier than the original.

I guess my question is, how much thicker should this be? I could probably go up to 0.080" thickness for a few more dollars.

Anthony

I think that the thickness is more of an issue of reliability and how it holds up against heat. The originals had big problems with buckling.
