Interest Check: Custom Portable JAMMA Test Rigs / Superguns
I am in the process of planning/ordering parts for a briefcase sized portable JAMMA test rig/supergun for myself. I figured if other people wanted, I could build some others at the same time I'm building mine. I could possibly build up to 10 additional units (that's how many cases I have available).
The one I am building for myself will have a 7" LCD screen (aka Raven monitors) in the lid. I also have 2 additional screens that could be used for the other test rigs. If you have one of these 7" LCDs already, I could make the test rig so you can just drop your monitor in.
These test rigs will be able to output RGB-S, VGA, Composite, and S-video. Inside will be a standard arcade switching power supply, isolation transformer, and video converters. Mounted in the lid will be a small industrial joystick with 3 24mm Sanwa buttons for player 1 controls, 16mm buttons for player 2 controls and start, coin, test, and service. There will be switches to select desired video output. There will be an 8 ohm speaker mounted in the lid and a switch to select between the internal speaker or external audio output, there will also be volume control for the internal speaker. There will also be a volt meter to monitor 5V and a pot to adjust 5V without having to open the case. There will also be banana sockets to tap into 12V, 5V, -5V, and Ground. On the sides there will be power in, isolated power out for arcade monitors, a JAMMA connector, banana sockets for RGBS, RCA sockets for composite video and audio, S-video socket, a VGA connector, and 2 DB15 connectors to plug in NeoGeo controllers or custom made controllers (controllers won't be included). Included harnesses will be a JAMMA extension harness, power cable for the unit, power cable for an arcade monitor, and harness for video signal to an arcade monitor. Also thinking about labelled graphics (CPOs) to apply to the lid and sides.
Each one will be hand made and tested by myself. I thought I'd check to see if there was any interest before I ordered a mountain of parts. If there is enough interest, this could be expedited. Otherwise, the original plan to build mine was to take it easy in my spare time with a completion date around the end of September. You may want to wait to see the finished product.
So, thoughts?
EDIT TO ADD THE FOLLOWING:
Here's a couple quick sketchups. Button and switch placement isn't final in these. There is a handle on these boxes between the latches, the speaker (not visible) is mounted to the lower left corner of the lid, the joystick in the model is a JLW the actual ones used are smaller.
