Interest Check: Atari Food Fight/Red Baron/Tunnel Hunt Gimbals (Aluminum)
I got the idea from another thread of mine but decided it deserved a new thread since it's not a "plastic" part.
What you see in the attachments are aluminum gimbals for the Food Fight, Red Baron and Tunnel Hunt analog joystick mechanism. The smaller parts are the gimbal posts which mate with the gimbal linkages. These will be a direct drop in replacement for the OEM plastic gimbals which tend to break and they will work on the older black plastic version as well as the newer/tougher natural nylon version. These aluminum parts will not be prone to breaking.
I had access to machine time today, so I whipped up these samples! While they're not complete, I think the pictures may illustrate where I'm going with them. I still need to machine the pivots, attach the pivots/posts to the gimbals and then test it for fit/function. I intend to give these a hard black anodized finish, so they'll look sweet. Final cost will be $50/pair. Once I get going, depending on how many sets I'll be making, it'll take me about 30-60 days to crank them out and have them ready for shipment. That includes anodizing.
Interested? Show of hands?
