Interest Check: Atari 2600 joystick metal dome sheets
(I don't really know which forum to post this in, feel free to move it.)
Hello everybody,
I have been in touch with a metal dome company and now I am checking for interest on reproduction Atari joystick (AKA CX-40) sheets that go on the joystick PCBs.
They will have a custom universal design that can be used on all revisions of joysticks, simply peel and stick.
For newbies, metal domes are the small little 3-legged contacts (and occasionally circular) on the inside of Atari joysticks that are stuck to a glossy adhesive laminate. The correct name for the whole thing is a "metal dome array."
I do need to get opinions on what domes to use;
Triangle domes, feel just like original but last less long, up to 400,000 presses/cycles.
Circular domes, feel slightly clickier than original, up to 5,000,000 presses/cycles.
4-legged domes, feel more clicky and responsive, up to 1,000,000-5,000,000 presses/cycles.
I also can make metal dome arrays for the earlier joysticks that came with the Heavy Sixers (AKA CX-10) if there is enough interest.
PRICING
Price will be around $11 shipped for the first one, then $7 each extra shipped via USPS in a bubble envelope. Tracking extra. You CAN buy just 4-legged domes for about $7 elsewhere, but why not just buy the whole thing and not have to re-use adhesive?
PLEASE NOTE: These are NOT the whole PCB. The triangle domes are the closest match in feel and shaft to original you can get. Feel is almost exact, shape is not, size is perfect.
I look forward to hearing what everyone has to say!
