why not deal with the individuals that are making you want to lock the thread and leave the thread open ? I really hate when my thread gets locked because someone else doesn't know when to stop. The message being sent is, all you have to do if you don't like a thread is crap in it and derail it until it gets locked.

There really is no reason a thread should ever be locked imho. No one is ever forced to look at a thread. If you don't like it or feel it's beating a dead horse DON'T CLICK ON IT.

Because some threads get locked due to the subject matter alone, and not necessarily due to inappropriate posting ie. profanity or harassment. We just saw an example of that.

yeah I can't say I disagree. I suppose my intent is to protect people from themselves.

I agree sometimes... but in your Sundance thread, clearly you were stirring the pot by trying to revive a thread that already got closed. It was no surprise to see it get closed again.

I mean, does this look like a start to an innocent "just trying to have a mature discussion" thread?
If there was ever a thread that should be unlocked...

Oh yes I did.

And yes, I actually didn't click the thread beyond the first time, because I didn't care to see all the drama that I was sure was happening (and saw overflowing into the dump thread, which I was reading). But I kept seeing it near the top, and then finally with a lock on it... and thought "didn't see that coming".

Dave, you can't throw a rock through a window and wonder what happened. Its one thing for something to naturally evolve into a shit storm. Its another to light a match and watch. I would imagine starting a thread about game restoration might flip your switch. So are you saying you want the moderator to give you a vacation for starting things?

But I would say if you go to a section and talk religion, politics, and race, ect ,you cant then later complain about it.

I lean toward leaving things unlocked myself. Otherwise things get completely buried that could be of interest to people. I'd unlock them all I think and just deal with individuals who are violating policies. But that's probably a lot more work for the mods. I'll just trust their judgement either way.

I wasn't told to lock anything and I can certainly unlock it, but to what end? So I gotta go hammer people for behavior unbecoming a human being?

There was truly nothing different or new showing up in the thread. The same repetitive crap over and over.

Causing a Super Moderator to <Yawn> due to boredom should be included in the TOS as new basis for having your thread locked....lol

Doesn't matter to me. I lean toward leaving stuff unlocked. But you are probably right. That's why I'm not a moderator! I would hate that job. Thanks for doing it!

That thread was a great story that a lot of new people never got to see. By far the most epic Klov thread of all time. No one pointed a gun at your head and made you post several wall of texts in the new one. That was your choice.

I moderate some other large scale communities.

It's because when somebody says something, then everybody has something to say, and then everybody has something else to say in response to that too. Doesn't matter if you eliminate the parties that started it.
