Installing Owl Eye Coin Door on Later Asteroids Machine... What's involved?

Anyone install the Owl Eye on a later Asteroids with the more common coin door? What's involved with this task? I have an Atari Owl Eye door (Actually two) and I'd love to install it on my Asteroids without too much alteration to my Asteroids cabinet. So, I figured I wire up the Owl Eye with the molex plug / wire harness that matches the machines wiring harness. What about the door opening? My understanding is that I need to open up the opening / alter the cabinet.

My goal is to do as little modification to the original cabinet as possible and to be able to convert it back to original if need be.

I made this adapter to connect mine. That way I can always swap back to the original "later" coin door. The two wires coming off it are for a custom test switch I mounted on the Owl-Eye.
I didn't have to alter the coin door opening either.

does owl eye have the coin mech fitted sidewards?i saw one on ebay usa (i am from uk) and thought about it for my upright but, when i saw the coin mechs i saw that it would not suit my coin box due to the coin mech being fitted sidewards.

i ended up just fitting a standard one,i got irish and the existing steel door was hacked so i got to source out the unpainted steel one.
:)

Well, I pulled out the second door and it's actually in nicer shape than the one I was going to restore however someone cut off the harness. So, now I'm thinking of restoring both doors but for my asteroids (without the owl eye door) I'll do a custom harness. At least that's the plans right now.

Found the plugs at Bob Roberts site.

The opening should be the same IIRC. I dont remember how the mechs are mounted, I imagine sideways just like on a Midway door. Worst case scenario is youll have to lose or hack the coin bucket lid, or find a replacement.

There are guides under the coin mechs that should allow quarters to slide right into a normal Asteroids coin bucket with a lid on it.
