Installing a K7000 in a Candy Cab - any known issues?

Hey guys,

My Capcom Q25 candy cabinet has been out of commission all year since my Nanao MS8-25F kicked the bucket. After waiting 8 months for a repair tech to return it in working order (that never happened), I've decided I might as well plop a new monitor in there instead. Sadly, MS8-25Fs are pretty hard to come by, so I've been debating on picking up a different 25" monitor altogether to get the cab back up and running.

A local Craigslister is selling a Wells Gardner K7000 for a good price, and I've been mulling it over. After all, that same monitor is in my Neo Geo 4-slot, and it's been a trooper for years. The question is, should I have any issues installing a Wells Gardner k7000 series monitor in a candy cab? Have any of you done this? If so, is there anything I should look out for? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!

It will not fit. The Nanao has a 25" (63cm) tube with 23" (59cm) screen while the Wells Gardner has a 26" (67cm) tube with 25" (63cm) screen. Too big. WG made a 23" K7400 but it's not common.

Ah, that's a shame. Do you think I should just look into swapping it with a Nanao MS9 series medium res monitor to replace the MS8? Ideally, I'd like to just have the MS8 I have repaired but I can't find anyone in my area willing to take a stab at it. :/

Thanks for the info.

I'm pretty sure a MS9 chassis is compatible with the MS8-25 tube/yoke. A few connectors (yoke, etc.) will need to be changed though.

That's great to hear. This could be the solution I've been looking for all this time. Thanks for all of the info, it's a big help!

As an alternative but only recommended to experts in these things, you could get the tube of a 24" TV (which has a 60cm screen almost identical in size to a 59cm one) and mate it with some Wells Gardner 25" chassis.

Good to know! Ideally, I'd like to be able to salvage the rotation mechanism turntable that's affixed to the MS8-25F as well, as it's a huge part of what made the cab so convenient. Maybe I'll have to hunt for some techs on here that live in the area and are more savvy than I am when it comes to monitors. Breaks my heart seeing this beauty collect dust.

You might see if Chad at arcadecup.com repairs that chassis.

Ed

Dropped him a line - good looking out.

If Chad's unable to fix it, do you think there'd be any issues with just tracking down another, more common variety of Nanao 25" monitor as a replacement?
