Installed Ms. Pac Speed Chip now i get nothing but a red screen :-(

Hey guys i I ordered the ms. pac cheat speed chip from hobbyroms.com (the one where you can hit the player 2 button and ms. pac speeds up etc.) and after installing it i get nothing but a red screen. I replaced it at position 6F and i made sure the notch was the correct way. I had all pins lined up everything looked good. Went to put it back in and nothing now.

I replaced it on an original ms. pac board and it looked like the original eproms had never been replaced before, and when i "slowly" pried the original 6F chip out, alot of the pins were all rusty and broke off by barely touching them. Some of the rusty pin fragments had broke off in the socket and i dug everything i could see out of the socket holes so i dont think that would cause the problem. When i pushed the speed in, it pushed in nice and snug.

Please help me out here, its my dads ms. pacman machine and he's gonna kill me if i cant get it working 100 percent again. thanks

Are the rest of the row 6 eproms black masked proms also? If so you probably flexed them enough to break a pin or two off one of the others. The best course of action would be to trash all those masked proms and replace with eproms.

Pacman Red Screen

Yep, replace them...or at least pull them out and clean the legs. As bad as the other one was, most likely they won't survive that operation though.

I don't want your Dad to get mad at you
so I'll send you a new set of row 6 eproms.
.... but, as usual, it will take 7 days to get to you
from the Great White North...

I'll have them in the mail on Monday...

Cheers,
Steph

Steph that would be amazong! Thanks so much ill PM you with my address.

And yes all the others were original mask roms, and i believe you guys are probably correct, i was doing some flexing etc when i pushed the other ones in etc.

Im surprised the game even worked before i messed with it. Considering the condition the original mask roms were in.

well i cleaned the edge connector on the board but not the adaptor. Whats recommended for cleaning the adaptor?

One thing i thought looked weird was the last 2 or 3 pins on the board where like soldered together for some reason? anyone see that before?

ok checked the bottom of the machine and i see the two bottom fuses are both blown. i hope this is the problem and its an easy fix. i have no idea how they would have blowed tho? it was the 21 fuses closest to the rear door, i forget what they said next to them, ill check when i get home though.
