I've got this very very minor glitch with my Pole Position 2 board. Basically, a couple of the static screens (see below) have strange little one pixel wide black "strings". They're not on screen during actual gameplay... only primarily on the brown/tan titlescreen and the high score screen. When entering a high score, the little "strings" will sometimes dance around moving around the screen. Again... they don't affect gameplay one iota, but it would be cool to determine whats causing them and if they can be fixed.

Here are some photos (i've circled some of the problem areas):

Venturing a guess, you've got a poor connection with a video ROM? Maybe one leg is spotty. Just pure speculation, but that is kind of a wierd problem.

Well, this insignificant glitch may be a sign of a more serious issue... (or not). This morning I powered on and got a bunch of distorted sound coming out of the speakers. I immediately cycled the power and the game booted as normal. That wouldn't be a big deal aside from the fact that my high scores were all wiped clean.

The game's running right at +5v... would it behoove me to bump that to 5.10-5.15?

Bumping the voltage a tad is fine Frizz. I have a board that glitches at anything under 5.12.

I was side tracked the other day when I read this - but I was going to mention typically little glitches like this are simply a small window looking into a bigger problem.

I just turned mine on and the set of PPII I'm using right now has the exact same thing as your top picture, same spots and size. I don't know what that means really but its odd, I can honestly say I never noticed it before.

Frizz, watch them more closely. They are the attract mode sprites moving behind the title screen. You'll see the race car coming around the racetrack in attract mode is the dancing string in the center. The other one on the right is also a moving car as I recall. All 3 of my Pole II board sets had this same phenomenon.

That makes sense, I just watched it closely and your right.

But what about the moving "squiggly" lines during high score entry? The lines move around in a set pattern as I turn the wheel?

It is the same thing. It seems the attract mode runs constantly in the background of all screens other than the game screen.

Same deal, I couldn't figure out when that was happening by your pic but I just played a game and it has the same thing when its playing the music waiting for a initials input while turning the wheel.

Honestly, I'd say just be happy your PPII functions!

Welp, I had a chance to go check out the game during lunch break... sure enough, I see exactly what you guys mean about the lines being the attract mode bleeding though somehow. Strange...

...unfortunately the damn "loss of high score" happened again. I powered up to a nasty garbled sound, rebooted and it fired right up to see my high scores reset.

I am guessing something on the edge connector... I plan on rebuilding it soon.

You ever fix this? I am seeing the same thing on this new PP board I threw in.

I am also getting some muffled sounds (like gameplay sounds are playing in the background but being muffled. The high score music sounds great and as it should) during high score entry.
