Need input on cheap eprom erasers. Are they actually worth buying, or should I go with a better more expensive model. I'm not using it frequently so I can't justify top of the line eraser. Are replacement bulbs easy to get with these no name erasers?
Thanks

I purchased this one with my programmer.

It is a cheap one i'd say,but it works fine and i can get 6-8 chips in there.I'm not sure about the bulb, have not looked into it yet.My old eraser was a small battery operated fluorescent light and i tossed a germicidal ultraviolet tube in it from my local hardware store.Put it in a cardboard box with the chips,it worked. You cant get much cheaper than that .

I have a cheap Chinese eBay one. It works great. I don't think I'd be able to replace the bulb in it. It was cheap enough that'd I'd just buy another.

I went with a cheapo $15 eraser from eBay. It works well and I can erase 4 or 5 maybe at a time. I don't use it a ton so it's worked out well for me.

There's not a whole lot to an EPROM eraser... I'd just go with something cheap. I personally have a Datarase II, which was the cheapest eraser available when I bought it many years ago. It's really just a UV bulb in an enclosure, and I'm sure the Chinese erasers work just as well.

I have one of those... and 3 other erasers that will do 75 chips at a time.

What can I say... I go through a lot of EPROMs. ;)

Same here. I use both at the same time quite often. Were going to be erasing a few hundred eproms today, they will get a workout for sure.
These will do a fair amount at a time but not 75 :)

Jason, I had to replace the bulb on one of mine. It was bad when I got it. I think its the one I bought from Bob Roberts. He had it on his junk page for the longest time.

I bought the cheap Chinese one. Other than a lot of translation issues with the manual (all 1/2 page of it) it has worked fine and does a great job. When it dies, I'll probably just buy another one rather that waste time looking for a replacement bulb.

Another user of the cheap chinese e-bay version here..... mine didn't even come with a manual.

My only complaint is that the timer doesn't match reality. Set it for 3 minutes, expect at least 15. Erases just fine though.
