I just got around to attempting to hook up an initial d 3 arcade machine that I won in a raffle last year and for the life of me I can;t get it connected right. There are two cables that look like optic cables comming from each machine, a red one and a black one. Atleast i think they are optic lines cause the red cable has a little red light. Does anyone know where these plug into? When I start the machine without the cables being connected it just boots up and says checking network now and wont go any further. Am a total newbie to the hobby so any help is much appreciated!

Those cables are most likely network cables to hook them up to additional machines. Somewhere on the machine (probably the coin door) is a test menu button. In the test menu there should be an option to change the game from a dual setup to a single setup. Save the changes and exit the test menu, then you should be good to go.

it was already set up as a single setup and wouldnt work (1 player) so i tried changing it to a 2 player setup as I have the dual sit down version and it wouldnt work. then i even tried all of the network types listed one at a time and still no dice. the manuals are confusing to me and dont help at all. any other ideas?

you need opto couplers (plastic connectors) so you can plug the cables into each other. Its super easy. Take the two cables from ONE side... The DARK cable (no red light coming out of it) plugs into the lit up cable on the other side. The lit cable then plugs into the dark cable on the other side. Power cycle the game and so long as you have your network settings right the game should come up.

Unless they have been removed or they are broken you should already have two opto couplers on the back of the game at the bottom of the coin box assy.

gamefixer has it right. I own a pair of these and the red cable from machine 1 plugs into the black cable on machine 2. And vice versa. But it sounds like you have bigger problems because machine 1 should be able to play by itself if all cables are disconnected from the other one. Definitely go into your menu system again and make sure all settings are correct.

ok found some couplers but wasnt sure if they are the right ones. they are toslink couplers steren brand. will those work?
