Hi,

I'm going to restore in few days a US Tron cab

Which is the right black vinyl to apply?

I was thinking to use the black marocco from quarter arcade

but I don't know if it is the best one for this game..

Any advice (website also where to buy it) is appreciated as always

Mav

yep not orginally vinyl nice semigloss oil based Black
and its 36" wide not sure what the widths are of the textures stuff
but my Satin Black is only 36" wide so theres no room for trim or error

Plus Black Morocco vinyl is the textured vinyl used on Cinematronics games...totally different from the smooth Tron finish you would want if you did use vinyl..

Plus people either don't know or seem to forget all the prep work that goes with vinyl. Usually you have to paint the surface you will apply the vinyl to any way so by not using vinyl you are saving yourself both time and money.

These cabinets had alot of area that was just all black and unless you are able to do the most professional bodywork, your repairs and imperfections will stick out like a sore thumb. If you want to use a vinyl product that has a very mild texture yet covers some mistakes, look at black pica vinyl from Happ Controls. You will of course still have to do an assload of prep work and painting as you would with any resto.

No, he is saying that his vinyl might work if that's what you really want to do. However that is not what any of us are recommending. I don't know anyone who has used vinyl to restore a Tron.

The original stuff isn't really vinyl, I believe it's something called Mellamite or something like that. On my game, I just sanded it down on the areas I needed to repair the wood, and roughened it up and painted over it. I had a similar finish on the inside of my Discs of Tron, and was able to heat it and peel it off...don't know if that works for Tron. In any case, the melamite finish is not like vinyl, and you won't be pleased with the appearance if you vinyl it. Why don't you post pics of what you have so we can get a better idea?

What Cinematronics games used vinyl... I thought the cabs were basically laminated MDF???

I'm asking because my RipOff has a textured finish, but I think it's a laminate on top of the fiberboard.

Jack the Giant Killer
Dragons Liar
Cosmic Chasm

Those are just a few off top of my head...

Your Ripoff has same finish as Jack the Giant Killer...Quarter Arcade sells what you need...its the vinyl moroco texture style.
