In the spirit of giving and my favorite holiday (Winter Solstice)

I am paying it forward....
o
I got my grail this weekend... and the cool guy I got from threw in a Hogans Alley.
That makes #5 for my Hogan's Alley collection.

So here is the deal.
It's is free (ROMs and PPU)
Shipping is Free

You just have to come up with the best reason (sob story, coolest story, wife left me and girlfriend ditched me in the same week, etc) why you or a friend/family member etc needs them and they are yours...

Let's have the deadline of Weds the 15th (1 week) so I can get them to you in time for Xmas and if you are doing it for a friend, time for you to do your thing)

So post away....

Free Wednesday!!!

They show up quicker when you title the post Free followed by the day of the week. Good luck!

This is a story of love, generosity, heavy lifting and a dumb stubborn man.

My now fiancée and I had our first anniversary coming up and I had found a red tent online for $200 but the owner couldn't get it to stay on for more than 5 seconds so I passed. I told her about it in passing and said that I wouldn't want to pay more than $100 for it. A couple weeks go by and the red tent is still listed. Unknown to me, she has low-balled the guy, massively, offering a mere $75 dollars and he ignores her. Another week goes by and he drops the asking price to $150. Once again my frugal girlfriend offers $75, this time, however, he messages her back. He suggests $100 which she accepts. We have to wait until the weekend to pick it up using her dad's truck. We have to drive about an hour to get out there and it wasn't the most fun I've ever had in a truck as air conditioning hadn't even been thought of when the truck was made and it was the hottest day of the year. We then have to spend 10 minutes driving around looking for this guy's place and just as we find it my girlfriend tells me she forgot the cash and lets me know that she still needs to go to the bank to get some. So we let the guy know that we are here but we have to go to a bank machine and that we will be a few more minutes. We drive to the nearest gas station to an ATM machine to pull out the $100 and get a couple of 1 liter waters as we're dying from the heat by now. We finally get back to the guy's house and he takes us out to the garage. This is the typical guy garage meaning that there are naked pictures of girls plastered all over the place, I wish that I could say that it bothered my girlfriend but I think I was a lot more embarrassed than she was since she commented to me about the "nice boobs" one of them had.

The seller fires up the tent and as promised it resets about 5 seconds into a game. He says that he's got a friend who was hoping to buy it and see if he could fix it but since we are there now he'll sell it to us instead. We open it up and pull out the board, he sees that there are batteries on it and suggests that we replace them. After putting new ones in, the system fires up fine and plays nicely.... well nicely in that the grass on the side with Golf is purple and Mario is a strange shade of green. He jokingly comments that now that the system plays he should charge more but he still honors the $100. He helps us load it into the back of the truck and we once again head off with our windows down as low as they can go.

After 30 minutes worth of driving and sweating out about 30 pounds from the heat we get back to my one bedroom apartment. Thankfully I'm down the stairs rather than up but with just the two of us to move it I knew that it was going to be my back doing most of the work. We manage to get it out of the truck without too much trouble and getting it in the back door wasn't much of a hassle either. As everyone here knows stairs always suck and this was no exception but only in that I was sweating so much by this point that I could barely see. We get it to the bottom and set it down so I can wipe my face. We grab a hold of it again and start towards the door that leads into the hallway and it won't fit. So we back up and open the door as wide as it can go but it still won't fit. So me being the highly intelligent man that I am suggest that we turn it onto it's side and slide it through. So in a hallway that is roughly 4 feet wide we start to turn the red tent over. We get it about 3/4 of the way over before it gets stuck. Really stuck. The legs have dug into the drywall and the once white wall has now turned a lovely shade of pink. I suggest that if we are able to get it back up the stairs then we can turn it all the way over on the landing and come back down. Although this might have worked originally it is now so wedged in there we can't lift it. Thankfully we can still get at the leg bolts so she suggests that we remove the legs. She grabs my tools and gives them to me so that I can remove the one side but then I have to pretty much jump over it in order to remove the bolts on the other side. Thankfully, doing this allows the legs to go inside the machine enough so we now have the clearance to continue flipping it onto it's top. We remove the legs and then resting it on its side we slide it through the doorway and into my apartment. We have to get the truck back to her dad but I still have enough time to put the legs back on and take a few choice pictures of it in all it's glory. Now if I had been able to just leave it with the grass being purple and Mario being green I wouldn't be writing this.

The next day I decide that I can improve it since I'm a man and therefore I know about all things that I don't. I open up the one side and fiddle with the little knobby bits that change the colors on the monitor. This helps a bit but the grass is now only a lighter shade of purple. I think to myself that maybe the chips aren't sitting right so I take out the board and gently, using a screwdriver, remove each chip and reset it. I put the board back in and, miraculously, it works. Now the grass is greenish with only a hint of purple, so I once again I remove the board and fiddle with them and this time I fiddle with the Mario side too. I replace it once more and golf looks near perfect and Mario is now his normal shade but the sky just isn't quite the right shade of blue.

At this time my obsessive nature kicks in and rather than think to myself: this is good enough, I think to myself: just once more and it will be perfect. So for a third time I take the board out and adjust everything and put it back in and I am greeted with a yellow screen on one side and a red one on the other. "SHIT" I killed the best anniversary present that I've ever gotten. So I take it all out again and this time as I'm taking out one of the chips for Golf I break off a leg. "CRAP" well that one's dead now but maybe Mario will still work. A few hours later and I'm still no closer to getting it working, I have to come clean and let her know that I broke it. She takes it better than I did and she still jokes about me breaking it.

I start posting that I am looking for replacement parts and I find someone who is willing to sell me some stuff as he no longer needs it. We agree on a price but he can't find a couple of pieces so I wait for him to find them. A couple months go by and I message him again, he still can't find them so we agree on a new price, then he disappears. I message him a couple months later again and something has come up so I have to wait again. A few more months have gone by and I'm still waiting. I post again that I'm still looking and find a couple more people that are willing to sell me parts but for whatever reasons they don't work out. I have promised her that I would have it working for Christmas morning and at this point its not looking too hopeful.

So please help this stubborn and compulsive man finally see if he can get his anniversary gift running for more than 24 hours.

Thanks for considering me.

Not really a sob story but, I am comng off of over a year of unemployment. I had to sell some arcades (Mario Bros.), comics (NYX lot), games (CIB including Mario RPG), and Marvel Legends (Deadpool CIB), for less than their value to make the ends. I didn't have Hogan's Alley to sell, but, HA is one of those games that reminds me of my hildhood. A less stressful time. Nostalgic escape. I've been hunting one of those down, there was a mini mart to the side of the Depot in Fallon, NV. They had a vs Uni-system with HA. I have the uni-system, but not the game.

CJ, whose klov name I don't know (sorry), has a HA he's willing to sell le, but I'll have to sell my clean Popeye cab. Popeye reminds me of Port of Subs in Fallon don't get me wrong, now that I'm working I can finally afford mine and my wifes bills, but we will be playng catchup for a few years. Which limits my geekness. I'm one with that, but would love a HA. Just to play after iget home from work, to remind me of a less stressful time.

Why not simply give them to someone who really needs those parts and can the story requirement? And how about give away 4 of them since you have 5. Or at the very least 3 of them. Now that's really paying it forward. :D

You're not Michael Eisner, are you? 'Cause if you are, I think you're a billionaire. :)

Haha, not Mike Eisner, if I were I'd shut Disneyland (well California Adventure) down and go on the Toy Story ride all day. But incorporate Hogan's Alley. Aaaaaaaand I'll put HA in my vs system. I'll have to use a NES lightgun, but I'll still rock it.

those are some really good questions.
1. Regarding the story: It can be sad, if can be fiction, but we all have problems and things arise, maybe there is something we don't know about that if the community found out, we could all step up and help.
2. I can use the ROMs and PPU and burn a few for other VS games that I can play.
3. It hasn't been a week yet... who knows what happens... ;)
4. I a not offended at all by the questions. :)

I would like to rip the gun off of a Hogan's Alley so that I may rob a children's hospital for crack money. Also, I want to cut a fart while I'm there and see if the cancer kids can smell it.

There. A little sugary, but I tried.

what is hogans alley?

Winner.

I'll take a nice holster or gun if you got one.

Want a sad story? Just found out my Grandma probably won't make it thru the weekend. And I just moved so probably won't be able to afford to go to the funeral if she does pass...

Mine just passed away today, will not be able to make the trip to MI....:(

Are you talking about ripping off the show Childrens Hospital? Cause if you are, I'll assist you in that. I have a package full of Anthrax for evey 'actor' on that crap! Ohh yes, the Anthrax will surely get to them! Too much 80's hair metal will drive anyone insane!!!!

Hey guys, sorry about your loss and family problems. It really sucks this time of year. :(

I was kinda hoping for the sob story like the first one. The ones you look back at and laugh or the ones where the only luck you had on a game was bad luck. I will be more clear next time...

I've got a sob story... not sad like losing a family member or anything. But, I'll be laughing it off some day, for sure.

Here goes.... I was working at a national video game retail chain. Things were going pretty well for me, and our store, but not well enough to save the company.

Our store shut down in July, and so I've been unemployed since.

Now, I just finished a degree at our local community college, but figure it's not enough (who wants an AAS nowdays anyway?) so I applied at a state college so I can get my BA, or BAS, or whatever. They told me I didn't have the right credits to transfer, and I needed one more class before they could accept me.

Well, I went to the local college to see about getting that class. I applied for Financial Aid (no job... class is only around $500, but hey, if I can get them to pay, why not?). They denied me. I appealed it, and was still denied.

That wasn't going to stop me, I would find some way to pay. So, I went to enrol for the class anyway. The school said I didn't have the prerequisites for the class I needed, but I could ask the head of the department to let me in.

I went to see the department head. She told me there was no way she could make an exception. If I wanted to take the class, I would have to take the course before it (another $500)... well, I could't afford that. Fortunately there was another option, take the placement test over again (took it five years ago in high school, and obviously at that point my score wasn't high enough to get in the class I needed).

Well, I did, and got a perfect score (I'm still trying to figure out how). So I registered for the class. But I'm still trying to figure out how to pay it.

I've got three arcades right now, but only my red tent is functioning properly. I have another that is, but it is going to someone else.

Yeah... kinda lame... but heck, isn't that what this is about? I'm jobless, broke, and trying to pay for college... I could sure use a Hogan's Alley. Ny other game is a Playchoice 10, with only one game in it... not much of a 10 there.

Ok, I don't know if this is all that bad to some people but for me it sucked. I bought a Toobin that I got taken on (read the posts) and I still can't play it. I also got a Red tent that I tought would never work, but I got it up and running (with the help of Mrsodapop) but then got kicked in the nads again when I find out that the board doesn't even have a game on it. The fricken board is empty. So now I have a Toobin that will not work after a bunch of time and money............and a Red Tent that would work if I had the money (its all in the Toobin) to get a game.
Thats my story.

Jcadler is getting a Hogan's Alley and a replacement Golf chip.
Robgest is getting a Hogan's Alley.
Eisner is getting a Hogan's Alley and a little extra thrown in.

Hope these help ya out in getting your games up and running!
Let me know if you run into any problems!
Happy Solistice and Merry Christmas!
