In Need of a Smaller Joystick Assembly

I have a cabinet that will not take any regulation size joysticks because when it is closed up the joystick base rests against the monitor, creating an open circuit and making the joystick almost useless.

I've tried Xarcade and Wicos and haven't been able to get any of them working consistently. So I need an option that has a smaller foot print under the control panel.

Does anyone have any ideas on what kind of joystick I should be looking for? How about a cocktail Pac/Ms.Pac Joystick Assembly?

Thanks a lot.

I think the sanwa sticks are pretty shallow as well. There is an old thread somewhere (either here or BYOAC) about this, but I don't remember all of the recommendations.

Unfortunately I need a "Pac" joystick. Though the base is small enough to fit my needs the nintendo sticks would be too small and not feel right for "Pac" games.

Thanks.

is it a custom cab or one that's been converted?

i don't know if this can be done, but what about using a pac style stick with a nintendo base? nintendo cocktail joysticks are pretty small, and with a pac stick you'd get the look you're looking for.

The cabinet is the one I mentioned here: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=110224

I doubt a Pac joystick would fit in a Nintendo base. And there is no place to get Pac joysticks anyway. I've been trying to get some for some bases I already have, but no one reproduces them.

Closest/smallest stick you will find that is anywhere near a Pac stick as far as feel is concerned is a standard Wico 4-way leafswitch stick.

That cab looks a lot like one a friend has. His looked like someone cut out a wood piece under the joystick are in the cp to make the stick fit but his had a happ 8 way stick in it. barely fit but it did.

Then it may be the same cabinet.

There is a groove cut into the inside front of the control panel so a joystick can fit.

But my problem is that the joysticks I've tried still rest against the bottom of the monitor when the control panel is closed. (And I pushed the monitor as high as it will go).

I just ordered these sticks for a pretty small cabinet; there's a drawing at the link that gives you an idea of the dimensions:

http://www.jammaboards.com/store/classic-arcade-joystick-8-way-to-4-way-switchable-/prod_282.html

After looking over the one a Happ Controls I really can't tell if the one at JAMMAboards are smaller than the Happs: http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/5060841125r_exploded.htm

The screw holes might not even line up.

Hold on, i think I might have what you need - brand new, too. let me get some pics...

Okay, I have six pics so I will have to do two posts (due to the 5-image limit). The 2nd post will show the dimensions.

I did some finish out work for a guy who was turning a Ms. Pac mini-cab into an Arcadeshop Multi, and this was something he had bought somewhere (probably E-Bay) and decided not to use, so he let me have it as part of the repair. I have no idea who makes it (some markings look oriental) or where to get more, but it might be exactly what you need.

If you want it, consider it $20 + $5 shipping = $25 shipped. It has never been used...

Okay, the metal plate is 3-3/4" long:

and 2-1/2" wide:

The joystick sticks up 3" above the plate:

And about 1-5/8" below (to the locking nut):

Ok, well at least I know the price now. i guess I'll keep it for the testing cab I'm making...

I have one that I pulled out of the exact cab you are referring to.

I have NOS and used sticks (shaft w/ red ball top, not the whole joystick). Not sure if they are on the site but I do have them.
