Going to attempt my first monitor discharge to replace my first chassis.....

Time to suck it up...Grow a pair...Be a Man...Nut Up...Cowboy Up...Grin and bear it....Take it like a Man...Deal with it...

Yes I was trying to waste more time....

I will report back if I can still type...

you may have heard/seen people describe it 1000 times.

Take a screwdriver with a wire connected to it and an alligator clip at the end. Clip the alligator clip securely to the monitor frame. (confirm the game is unplugged)

put one hand in your pocket, take the screwdriver and push it up under the anode cap, and boom you are done.

My guess is you will have one of these monitors that 'self-discharge' on some level and it will be very anti-climatic. :)

you got it bro, do it!

Well this is a P538 board K7000. I hope its self discharging lol

no problem...did my first one and i was scared as hell...pushed the screwdriver up there and didnt even hear a pop...was wearing thick gloves...made sure the screwdriver hit the metal like 20 times before attempting to remove...but i got er done!

I only ever get a big pop if I do it seconds after it was on. By minutes it is a little chirp. By an hour it has always been nothing at all. Probably done it 300ish times by now, all the fear went away years ago.

Not quite... the discharge isn't uniform and as the charge spreads out over the inner surface of the tube it will appear to have "recharged" itself. Simply wait a few minutes (3 to 5) and discharge one more time to be sure.

When I go to hook a chassis back up I do it one more time just to be sure.

WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO! I'm alive! No Pop! Very uneventful......

Now to figure out why my leg is shaking lol

me too. I'm pretty paranoid. I will discharge a monitor 3 or 4 times before messing with it.

It can be sitting on my shelf for 6 months and I always discharge it before attaching a chassis to it.

I'm sure you've inspired confidence with your insight.

your a lot of help ROFLOL....Anode is pulled! Now board pulling time..think Im gonna take a few minutes rest lol

+1 that. I discharge, wait 15, discharge again, play some games for 15, discharge again, drink some beer for 15, discharge one more time. Then screw around with it.

Just take your time.

If you ever work on a WG 4600 they have a pesky width coil on the metal frame with wires to the board. You MUST unsolder those or the fragile paper in the coil will crumble to dust and drop out of the mount.

G07 monitors have a cap in backwards from what the silkscreen shows... and sometimes have wrong resistors in one section. If the fuses blow there is a big cap on the board that will hold enough of a charge to take a chunk out of a screwdriver tip. Just discharge it through a suitable resistor and you'll be fine.

Monitors aren't hard to work on if you just take your time and be careful. Research the internet for repair "FAQ" pages and read up to figure out what to watch out for, or ask in the monitors section here.

The way I see it is unless you have some severe health problem, a little shock from a monitor wont hurt you physically (but it may startle the living shit out of you).

Though I once forgot to discharge a K4600 I pulled out of a Zaxxon (I had JUST powered off the game, by the way) and I went to take the chassis off. I grabbed the frame with my left hand, I went to grab the anode cap, got it off and let it drop, it brushed against my forearm and I got put on my ass. The shock itself didnt hurt me, but I destroyed the tube when I necked it at the same time, and put a nice cut in my arm.

OK serious question as this is my first time .....

The is a black wire coming from neck board ... I believe this should connect to the black wire connected to the degauss wire around the monitor.. please see pic... (hope that is a degauss wire lol)

Thanks for the help boys!

orange wire nut goes back to neck board......

there is no pic

there is no pic but the black wire is a ground that wraps around the tube much different then the degauss that plugs into the chassis. the good news is the degauss is two wires the ground is only 1 hard to mistake the two.

so this black wire from neckboard goees??? I will upload the pic again
