Imperial monitors from ArcadeShop

Has anyone had success with using an Imperial monitor from ArcadeShop?

After getting a pallet full of bad Kortek monitors, I finally broke down and bought a few Imperial monitors from ArcadeShop. I was told they were just like VisionPros. Well, they got here today and they are the same monitor as the ones I have, and they all have the same problem with lines. Imperial = Kortek = Betson! Ahk!

So was the solution presented yet form the manufacturer?
Seems like a timing issue with the color gun drivers... They are not turning on and off fast enough perhaps...
 
The techs at the manufacturer are suppose to be working on it.

However, I just got this response from Randy Fromm...

I think this is simple. I suspect the issue lies in the video level coming from your "60 in one" board. I suspect it's too high and that some monitors can handle it but the Kortek can't. I doubt that there's anything "wrong" with the Kortek monitor in terms of bad components. Do you have a 'scope? What's the P-P level of the video?

Try padding the video output with a pair of resistors or a 5k potentiometer and see what happens as you lower the amplitude of the video input to the monitor.

I am going to give this a try, and will post the results.
 
Does anyone have the specs on these Imperial/Kortek monitors? I would like to know what kind of signal they expect from the video output.
 
Wells-Gardner and most other arcade game monitors generally have input specs of 1 to 5 volts RMS peak-to-peak.

It's possible that this particular Kortek incarnation may only want to have 1 to 2.5 volts RMS peak-to-peak signal.

You are NOT "adding resistance" to the input in the sense that you are not simply adding a series resistor. In fact, you are actually lowering the input impedence (the actual impedence of the video source that the monitor "sees") with an L pad. It's OK to drive the a high impedence input with a low impedence source but not the other way around.

Using a scope, the outputs from a 48in1 board all measure between 1 and 1.3. I'd say right about 1.2V. Sync was 3V. That seems pretty low. I am guessing the Wells and VisionPros can handle the low signal, but the Korteks can not.

I have a friend who is working on a fix that would boost the signal. I will report back.
 
Anybody know where I can get the schematics for these monitors? The only model number I can find is KTN-2001(IM)ORION.
 
The situation with the Kortek 2001M monitors and the multigame boards seems to do with signal strength. The "B" quality boards put out a weak video signal, that is below the specs for the Kortek monitors. I tried an "A" quality board and it looks just fine.

There is still the issue where some will die after being on for only a few days, but Betson sent me a fix for that which is detailed elsewhere.

UPDATE: One of the monitors that has been in service the longest just had the red channel go out. The adventure continues.
 
I hve one of the Korteks with the small remote board from Arcadeshop that wasn't opened until recently. There is purple coming in from the edges. Is this a problem associated with these & what is the fix for this? Does it need manual degaussing or to be hit with a rejuvinator, or is this something that can be adjusted out. It's in an Arkanoid with board issues now, but had the same issue when I first tried it in Final Fight.
