Anyone who has dealt with scanning side art, pinball playfields, large EM schematics, etc knows what a fiddle it is to stitch all the parts together.
I got sick of doing this and had scanned in a large EM pinball schematic last night in 8 parts. I downloaded the Microsoft Image Composition Editor from here
http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/ivm/ICE/
.
Holy crap! All I had to do was drag the 8 image files onto the app, glick go and shazzam! it stitched it all together into 1 big-ass image. Granted it was an image full of straight lines, but I was impressed. If someone has some artwork scan sets to try it on, I'd love to hear how well it does...

cheers

I've been thinking about different ways to do side art lately, and wondering if having a large transparent grid printed would be useful, providing visual reference points for matching up different scanned portions perfectly. Another idea I had was to modify a scanner to fit into a large solid rack with a number of fixed, evenly spaced mounts. Then in theory you clap the frame to the side of the cab and move the scanner for each portion, which would match up perfectly with the others because of the mounts.
