I'm such a dweeb....how can I "unmake" a hole?

>.<

IMHO, think about welding...

...a metal slug (or washer) can be welded into the hole to make it smaller or shut.

And the weld can be applied to the bottom of the CP so you don't have to sand it.

The hard part will be keeping the slug level and keeping your CPO from lifting off (due to the heat).

More than hard, impossible. You will only be able to weld to bare steel, that is, without setting anything attached to it on fire. I use a magnetic holder to keep the slug level.

Yeah, if your hole is already too big, you shouldn't be drilling though any metal. You'll only be re-drilling the hole again through bondo, epoxy, and plastic. It works like a charm.

Don't use a forstner bit if you don't feel comfortable. Use a hole saw if you want.

if i did that, id take the piece i punched out from the punch.. hammer it back flat. Put back in the hole, weld it up. grind the weld down. Repunch the hole to the correct size. done. (and done right)

id be afraid after alot of button maching the "epoxy rig" would crack and the button would fall down, but hey never know till you try.

So I did what was suggested earlier. Here's the original. I needed to move 1 hole over a bit, shrink another down and fill in a couple to move the start buttons to the other side.

I did the oven trick to remove the original thrashed cpo but no chemicals I tried could remove the glue.

So as someone on here suggested, I used a drill with a wire wheel and it did a great job and didn't take long.

As you can see, I epoxy'd a couple small pieces of sheet metal to the back.

Then I filled them with bondo and sanded them smooth. It came out pretty good I think. Thanks guys!

Patched those holes like a pro! Looks good
Your centipede thanks you :D

Thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately, I positioned the wholes slightly off from where I'd like them to be. It will always bug me but probably nobody else will ever notice. Came out ok overall.

Well, some control panels are destined to have button-placement mediocrity, so no worries. ;)

Sorry if this is a dumb question but how do you use those punch holes anyway? Im thinking of adding some buttons but Im not sure what I need and how to use it? Is there a tutorial somewhere?

you make a pilot hole for the bolt, then attach one side to the other through the control panel. Wrench the side with the square knob and after a few turns you have a perfect circle!

I love these things. I found mine (1 1/8) on eBay; got it for $12 shipped.

Yep it's really straight forward. The Harbor Freight one works good too. The buttons I have worked fine with the second to the smallest one. They come with directions on how to use them. Doesn't take long at all to figure it out.

And just a final pic to show my son enjoying a nice game of Wizard Lizard or Lizard Wizard or whatever it is with the new cpo. Thanks for the art Frizz and thanks for printing it up TOG!

Nice. Those E-sticks are great for metal panels.

Yeah it seems to work well. It's supposed to be a temporary solution though. Once the ArcadeSD card supports the 49-way joystick along with trackball I want to put that in and see how it works.
