My wife and I are looking to buy a house soon and the whole time I'm looking all I seem to care about is location and how big of an arcade I can build. When she is telling me about a house she likes I always correct her and say a 2 or 3 car arcade instead of garage. She want's to park inside and as much as I love my cars I'm not going to give up my dream at an arcade. I guess its bad but she won't budge when it comes to a nice, large kitchen and a big bathtub so we both have our wants for sure. We found a place tonight that had a huge detached garage with a bathroom that would have been perfect, the place even had a pool but the house sucked. I was seriously thinking about how I would live with the crap house and enjoy everything else out back but I couldn't even force myself to suggest that we make an offer. Hopefully we'll have a place soon and I'm using all the pics posted here to shape my game room into a respectable home for my games!

We bought about 3-4 months ago and it was the same exact story.
I was drooling over this place that had a detached garage that was freaking HUGE. It could hold 100 games, and it was NICE with a work bench and everything.

It was all about the garage. :)
didn't get it but,
we like the new place

good luck buddy, if you don't have an agent, the guy we worked with is outstanding. He works tirelessly for you, won't take a commission unless you are 100% satisfied, and after we closed and moved in, he sent us several gift cards for a few months afterwards for home depot, or chipotle. class act.

Do you California guys get to have basements?

Or is that a bad idea given the earthquakes?

Some places have them, but they aren't "normal" or in the majority of the homes.

My place has a pool in the backyard and about 10 years of earthquakes have taken their toll on it. The pool portion is fine, but the surrounding deck keeps getting more and more cracks and is slowly lifting up. If that gives a good gauge for how quakes screw with things.

My wife and I close on our new place next week. The basement is nice and big but it currently an ugly peach color. We are planning to repaint but first we are having two bedrooms put in. There are only two now and we have two kids, so we need at least one more bedroom. I think the basement is 830 sq ft or so. It looks as though there should be plenty of room for games after the walls for the bedrooms are added. Its probably going to be 6 months or more before the contractor is able to start work. When its all said and done, I should be able to make a decent arcade area out of it. I am hoping to get a pool table (or if I am lucky a pinball machine) with the tax refund in the spring. At any rate, it looks like my games won't have to be crammed in a corner anymore. That would be so nice.

My wife and I are also closing on a house and yes, the entire time we were looking at houses all I could think about was where the arcade was going. Priorities!

Bought my house cause of the HUGE game room. The whole 2nd floor actually. With two closets and a restroom.

Everyone talking bout house's is making me jealous, I live in an apartment. Im required to live on site as Im the maintence supervisor, works out though with free rent, free water and free cable also i havent drove to work in over 20 years. But I would LOVE to have a garage!!

And you get to listen to people complain about broken stuff all the time. Woohoo!

We are working with an agent right now, she's a friend of my wife but I'm not sure how good she really is. Don't get me wrong, she's working for us but she lives quite a ways north of us and most of the places we want to see are south of us so its hard to get her down here to go actually see properties. We currently live in Rocklin, I like it here but we want to move up to Cameron Park. We found an awesome place, looked at it a few times, had my dad do an inspection and actually made an offer just to find out our financing won't work for that place. It kind of pissed me off that we invested so much time just to find out we never had a shot at it and I think she should have known that to begin with. If we end up switching I'll let you know, sounds like your guy is top notch.

I'm lucky though, my wife is totally willing to let me have my arcade and even looking to help me find a huge area to have it in. I was expecting a 5X5' room but she's finding huge spaces or a 3 car garage for me! We are going to make an offer on a place today, its priced WAY low so I'm afraid its one of those tricks to get high offers but were going for it anyway. If it happens I'll be WAY excited.

My next house MUST have a walk-out basement. I'd love a three car garage but that's just my summer workshop so I can deal with parking outside during the summer.

One thing to think about with a basement gameroom is air movement. Even though we always talk about black walls and dark rooms, my gameroom gets HOT when all the games are on. The HVAC doesn't handle all of the heat so I run fans. I'd love to have bigger windows to open up for air movement.

When we were looking for a house 2 years ago, a walk out was a MUST! After looking for a year and 1/2 we finally found the perfect place.

Buying a house is one of the most frustrating things ever, but once you find/get it, its the best thing ever! :)

GL man, as long as both parties are happy, that's all that matters!

Have fun looking. I have seen newer houses around here that have as big as a FIVE car tandem garage. :004_sdrool:

Ditto on that...
The house we bought in December of last year has a 2100SQ basement and a 4 car garage..along with 9' ceilings going into the basement.

My wife and I have a very simple understanding....the basement is mine..the rest is hers =)

I must she doesn't have a damn thing in the basement
