Hi I'm troubleshooting my conversion and So far I've gotten three out of the four joysticks working good by checking all the connectors but number four seems to have no power and I'm not sure why(can't even get the buttons to work). I called the repairman who rewired it for me said to check the ground wire but everything seems plugged in ok but I could be missing something.

I took some pictures while working on it but I have no idea which wire is loose. Players 1-3 work fine except some microswitches I have yet to change on two of the player 3 buttons.

so on to my rats nest(had my sister hold it and player four is way over on the left):
,,,

Ps: At least I got to play through a mess of Bucky O"Hare on 2P. That was really fun ^^

your grounds are on the wrong terminal of the micro switches. The ground it the outside that is set back a bit labeled as COM. Colored wires should be on the N.O. Terminal. Technically it should not matter, but i dont see anything else wrong.

I also cannot see player 4 too well

While looking at your pics I noticed some red junk between the edge connector and the resistor paks. I would look that over but not sure it is the same board set.

Would player four be a kick harness off of the board? If so, maybe it came unplugged down there.

Let me clarify this as much as I can without taking more pictures(which I will do when I get home...just can't do this at work) What we have here is a 4P Konami X-men/Konami control setup and I'm not sure what you call these but it has two pin connectors for 3p and 4p. Both are plugged into the board and for troubleshooting purposes I plugged the 3p connector in the the 4p pins on the board temporally to check for a bad board but the 3p joystick controlled the fourth player just fine.

This makes me believe that there's some sort of loose connection between the 4P connector and the Buttons and joystick that I can't figure out which is why I'm asking for help. I really stink at wiring things...

edit: kb0jjn all those board shots are my bad Xmen board(bought a new one two days ago)...not Bucky O'Hare which I'm using to test the I/O with

Ok here is what I would do. First find the common ground, it should be one ground wire that connects to most/all switches. follow that ground wire to the different players connections and verify they are all the same (going to same connectors for plyr1, plyr2, etc.) then you need to verify that the ground wire is making a good connection and not bent pulled on (like when you flip up the cp) or crushed. Multimeter on beep test will tell you in short order if the switches are good and can tell you if you are getting ground to the common point.

thank you everyone. After I got home I started looking for loose wires and found a loose ground wire coming off the bundle of wires headed for the 4P connector. When I touched it to the upper right connector on the joystick terminal/switch the 4P controls clicked in. I couldn't fully plug it in due to a big lump of sauder(on the switch) but at least I know where the problem is.

Now to find the time to go to the store and get a saudering iron....

You might need a weller soldering gun for that. If I remember right they take quite a bit of heat to solder correctly.
