Just picked this guy up over the weekend. Looks good expect for the control panel.

And I said I wouldn't buy any games when I moved to Louisville. (8+ games later)

Great score, congrats.

FYI, if you need any help with it, I repair the boardsets. There are also a few decent threads with good general info, if you just search forum titles for 'Thief', including info about upgrading the tape player to mp3. (I also have a set of files I can provide on request, with a few different versions of the audio, PM me if needed.)

I'm really curious what it cost you. Thief is one of those games that appeared at a rather unpopular neighborhood pizza shop, and quickly vanished... yet the gameplay REALLY hooked me. That game is really fun! It's definitely on my "want" list, but I have no idea what a reasonable price is(not that I can either source one, or have the money for it right now).

Great score! And a very fun game to play. My kids LOVE it. I also see the original tape player in there which is nice....mine was long gone when I got my game.

I'm also curious as ive seen prices range from $600-$1200. Ive read that they built between 300-400 of them. Not sure how true that is but they are on the rare side. Game play is sure to hook people as its basically pacman with a bad ass audio setup.
thanks

If I find out anything, I'll let you know. If you're right about that production number, that would explain the higher price(although, demand factors in to that).

I would love to have a Thief in my home arcade. It's similar to some other games, but just different enough to be unique. And that "soundtrack"..... I have the mp3 file... it's fun to just listen to once in a while. :D

See if you can find out where the production numbers came from - I would be interested in seeing that. Here are some snapshots of mine. My CPO was 99% gone....but Rich at TOG hooked me up!

I know it was from a post by kieth smith in his blog "all in color for a quarter". I will try and find the actual post.

Finally started working on this game.

Boy was it super clean inside. I am going to guess that the guy was right and he was the only owner of the game.

1) Tape and tape deck still work 100%
2) Monitor doesn't have glow, but the soldered fuse on the chassis is bad
3) Game does not play blind as far as I can tell. I will have to try in MAME to hear what it is supposed to sound like.

Try test mode first, and see if/what that tells you.

See the dip settings in the manual for details. There are multiple different self tests depending on how you set the switches, which are pretty useful.
