I'm moving, keep 'em or sell 'em?

What does your rent cost? Are you an actual operating arcade?

on a lighter note, atlanta GA isnt that bad, ive been there.
alot of people cooking out (better food than ct) and they like thier weed there.
even the strangers are nice to you .

Who here lives in Atlanta?

Hook up with them and let them "borrow" your stuff until you figure out what's going on.

Two cabs and 25 boards is about the same space as three cabs. That's not really a big deal for most collectors.

Like other's have said, you will regret selling them and will most likely never acquire them again.

You have time to think about it, so don't rush into any decisions.

I can understand someone wanting to get out of the hobby because they are no longer interested in it, but don't let your job situation dictate that for you.

My vote is to keep them, but if you do decide to sell, I'm looking for a SAR Search And Rescue rotary boardset... :D

I'll say this... I live north of Atlanta. Move as far away from the city as you can to get a bigger house. Course, no matter where you live the commute sucks ass. Welcome to the ATL.

Also, the local arcade community is full of vultures. It's terribly difficult to buy anything cheap here, lots of folks want top dollar. Deals can still be made of course, but they are few and far between.

I agree with someone earlier who said to store your stuff for a year, and if you still want it just pay to ship it down here... still likely cheaper than re-buying it all. :)

Sure. Half my basement is empty. I can hold 2 cabs for a while for somebody.

There we go!

Problem solved!

:D

I've held games before for other collectors. It was cool as it was like a free game that I would have never bought myself. I was sad to see them go...

Try living in my area of connecticut.
even craigslist looks like a shit pile.

Well i rented a cheaper place that i moved to , and the arcade space is another 250 a month.
No its strictly private storage/shop .
also has a movie projector setup now , fridge , microwave , internet and coffee maker.
there is an indoor skateboard park in the building next to me so i can also go over and watch kids break thier legs .

That's a great deal for some commercial/private space.

Well I just made the move from Texas to Delaware and brought 7 cabs, about 20 pcbs and other misc parts with me. For the pcbs I went to Lowe's and got some of the heavy black plastic crates with the yellow lids. Very sturdy and didn't worry they would collapse during the trip and wrapped in bubble wrap. With only 2 cabs you can find a place for them if you really want to.

I did the same thing.

Funny my first load when I moved was packed with games in the back and closer to the front was household goods. Wife asked if we could load more stuff in there and I said we were full on this load. She said you don't have any games in there and I said no. :D

Ah fun times moving 50+ games.

I moved from Palos Park IL (south suburb of Chicago) to Eagle River Alaska. I took it all, almost 40 games and as much of my crap as I could cram into the rig. I had one container for house stuff, and one for games, company paid for it all. Most games currently sit in storage at $300 per month, but plan is to build a big garage at the new place we bought. House is small but plenty of land to build on. If it doesn't work out by the end of this year I'll probably start selling it off.

I'd say take it and sell it off if you must once your new situation shakes out. Selling a house in IL right now sucks big donkey ba**s.

All my cabs and crates went in first (nose of the trailer) and everything else after that. Just in case it got tight at the end I wouldn't have to leave any. She wouldn't want to unload the whole trailer and so we made it all fit. 1500 miles one way there wasn't going to be a second trip.

I did sell off around 15 total before we moved.

Thanks!

Thanks to all of you for your sound advice.

While my impending move is still at least 6 months away, I won't make any rash decisions until we have a moving date.

The way I see it (and my wife), we will be renting a 2-3 bedroom apartment/condo/townhouse for 6-12 months. This needs to happen because it is doubtful our home in Illinois will sell by the moving date so we won't have the huge down payment to afford a costly mortgage of $300,00+. Also, my wife is quitting her job and we will be a single income family until she lands a job.

She says the PCBs can go to ATL but the cabinets I can't take. We won't have the flexibility renting like we do owning a large home.

She also informed me that it is doubtful I can take all 500+ DVDs and Blu-rays. BUMMER! I can take a Top 100 at least.

Who knows, things may change and there may be tons of space on the moving truck or storage space at the housing rental. Fingers crossed.

Thanks again for your support,
Andy

Try living within striking distance of CoinOp Warehouse..........

Herein lies the problem. What happened to "we"?

This.

When we moved into a much smaller house, my wife knew I wasn't leaving certain things behind, even though it would be a real trick trying to fit it all. No easy access to the basement meant the games(then 4 of them) were going on the main floor. She didn't argue, even though she didn't like it.

As far as your DVD collection goes.... that's what, two mid-sized boxes? Maybe 3? Put your foot down on those two things..... even a 3 bedroom apartment will have room for that stuff.

Tell me, what is SHE leaving behind?

So many rules. You said you're looking to rent a 2-3 bedroom condo, do you have kids, are they coming with you? That's a lot of space, I assume you have a lot of furniture. I get not being able to take the cabinets. I do not get the rationale for the 500 blu rays. Yes that's a lot, but they can fit in 10 boxes or less and you can stack them straight up to the ceiling.

I have to third this. Even if she isn't into it, it's your stuff. I've dated girls before who weren't into them at all and my rule was always if we get serious enough to look at places together, we're serious enough to find a way to make room for my one hobby, at least somewhat. She won't even "let" you have one cab to put the PCBs in? Is she not bringing any furniture at all that takes up as much space?

We don't know what to expect. We have two kids 4 & 6 that will probably get their own rooms. This is just a temporary thing until we buy a house. Once that happens we will both be able to resume our hobbies.

As for my wife, she is leaving behind everything she can including her science career that she has worked so hard to achieve. Sadly her science isn't applicable to the greater Atlanta area. She works for ADM as a chemical engineer here in the grain capitol of the world. She actually moved here from England because this is where her science was needed.

There are many unknowns ahead. Who knows, maybe the moving truck will have room for 10 arcade cabinets and our townhouse will have the perfect nook for everything. I hope but I just wanted to bounce around some thoughts and ideas to help down the road.
