Thought an introduction would seem like a good idea.
I hail from Brooklyn, NY, but we've moved out to Bellport, NY (financial reasons...). For as long as I can remember, I've always been interested in electronics and game hardware / software. I have a photograph of a solar-power adapter I built for my Game Boy myself when I was ~9 years old.
My site, http://mikejmoffitt.com , serves as a project log for various mods and repairs and things I've done primarily out of hobbyism. I also develop some small iOS and computer games, again mostly for my own satisfaction.
I picked up my first and only full arcade machine back in 8th grade (I'm about to start my second year of college now). It's an Atari Dig-Dug full stand-up cabinet, and I got it for $158. It was in my neighborhood, so the guy who sold it on eBay borrowed a friend's truck and just drove it over. What a rad guy!
The cabinet was in pretty good shape, at least for that price. I bought it knowing it had monitor issues, and it did. The side-art looks very good, except for a big stupid tear on the right side near the top that I have yet to patch up. The marquee, control panel, inputs, bezel and all that are in great shape; no burns or scratches. The original leaf stick works very well as do the buttons.
The monitor, a Sanyo EZY (yeah, EZY!), needed a cap kit badly. It wavered like a flag, would occasionally randomly shrink the image in size (which I now know points to an unstable B+ voltage), and it had fold on the top. Furthermore, it wouldn't degauss, color purity is wrong, and it has awful alignment.
I've re-capped it, and that fixed most problems. Colors and alignment have yet to be fixed for a good reason - when I moved to Bellport, I took the monitor out to ease transport, and did the re-cap then. I was shocked to see that the most outward set of adjustment rings had cracked and fallen off! I have no rings. .
I may try to "borrow" some from an old TV set some time, but for now I've bought a monitor to install. I'll keep the EZY and use it some day.
