Just picked up an Operation Wolf with some type of Wells Gardner in it, and the picture was really fuzzy. I turned the "focus" control on the high voltage, and it got sharper and sharper until it ran out of travel right before it was going to get really good. Do I just need a cap kit?

could be.... or weak flyback... or weak tube..

Before you do much more pull it apart and clean the bezel and tube face first. Youd be suprised how much of a difference it makes.

It possible. A cap kit might change the range, and a rejuvenation might help.

I just tested a K7000 tube for a buddy who had a blurry pic on a free monitor, and we found that the tube was shot. Couldn't even get a reading on any of the color guns, and the focus test failed...

You should also check the focus wire going to the neck board... just verify there's nothing obviously wrong w/ it... but it sounds like probably a bad flyback to me.

Thanks, everybody. I'll just add a cap kit and flyback to my next order from Mr. Roberts and hope it's not the tube.

Probably has a K7000 model in it.

Turn contrast control to see if it helps focus.

Probably need a new flyback.

I finally got around to doing this today. Ken, you were absolutely right, it was a K7601. Did a cap kit and put in a new flyback, which put my focus range back where it should be.

I still have focus problems, though. With the brightness way down everything looks super crisp, but as I turn it up, the brighter colors on the screen get fuzzy. White text is particularly bad. I've tried different combinations of "screen", "brightness", and "contrast", but I can't seem to improve it. My oscilloscope is not really accurate enough to do a proper white balance procedure, so I'm just guessing on the "screen" control. Does any of the horizontal stuff have an effect on focus?

monitor

rejuve the tube now and you should be fine.

I don't have a rejuvenator, but It's probably time for me to buy one--eBay here I come! That is, unless someone happens to be traveling through the scenic Midwest with their rejuvenator. Kansas really has a lot fewer tornadoes than they show on TV :D. It's a nice place to visit.
