Ok, I'm stumped. What gives? I completed the Control Panel Harness. First time I've played Berzerk in probably 30 years or so. The stick is doing fine, it was a little tight at first. Player select button 2 is acting better than one. My main issue is - I can't shoot!
Did I miss something with the wiring? Fire goes to Pin 4 on the molex. I have continuity. I've had it off there 4 times checking continuity to pin 4. I've checked my +5 to the stick because I know that you have to have the stick pointed in a direction as you Fire. I've tried both Fire buttons. The leaf switches and buttons are brand new.
Scratching my head wondering what the problem is. It's consistent. It doesn't sometimes work and othertimes not. All I can do is run away screaming in terror as they call me a chicken and 'get the chicken'.

Do you have the optical stick? Just wondering why +5V to the stick. All I can suggest is to trace the wire back to the board, and connect a wire between ground and that input... if that doesn't do it, then it sounds like you've got a board problem. If that does it, then you've got a wiring/ground problem to the CP. Mine was actually doing the same thing the other day, but it was just my leafs out of adjustment (they'd work occasionally, but that makes for a pretty tough game ;) ).

Yay! I found it. I guess that's what I get with crimp on connections. I traced it all the way back and into the board. I was like, what the heck? Moved up the harness about 3 ft, recheckd - nothing. Moved up another 3 ft, nothing??! meh - that's the connector. I pulled the connector out through the front and bore down on it a bit, put it back in service and tried another game and whalla! I could actually shoot back!! I had just put new molex' on today which basically got the control panel running and essentially, completed the Berzerk Project. There's a few things I'd like to mop up, like getting a horizontal width coil on there and a hw tantalum cap kit, prolly cap the monitor while I'm at it. Definitely a mans' game. The spring I used seems just a little on the manly side. I just eyeballed it as I had nothing to go from. I'd definitely like a fellow collector to drop by and test out that stick sometime, yes it's the bat joystick. But I'm afraid the tension may be a little high as playing the game is kind of a workout.
But thanks to those folks that helped me complete this project with the hair-pulling of ZPU issues and 3 beeps and no LED and (blech) ad nauseum! I really enjoyed the restoration of the cabinet more than I did the electronic side of things but I definitely am feeling the sense of accomplishment after starting this project in December 2002.
Thanks again

Nice... congrats! I've got a Bat joystick for mine as well, but I'm undermotivated to install it. My Frenzy (Berzerk conversion) still has the original bat connector, then someone adapted it for a leaf switch... on my Berzerk, they cut/soldered to the leaf joystick, so I gotta look up the pinout, crimp a connector, make sure power is still there... ugh... too much other stuff to worry about before installing a bat :p .

But yeah, I believe the bat joysticks are pretty stiff.

Yea there are a couple of loose ends to wrap up. I need to buy a hwc that works and probably a tantalum hw kit. While I'm there I might as well cap the monitor. I tried to find one a couple weeks ago and came up empty.
