My 4-year old daughter uttered these words the other night as she watched me playing Ms. Pac Man. I said "now honey what makes you say that". She said "you're just really really good."

I enjoyed having this discussion with her. I finally said "you will be better at this one day than I ever will. Know why?" She looked at me in disbelief, and said "how?"

It was pretty unbelievable to hear myself saying this, but this was my reply:

"JEB (her initials), you are 4 years old, and already good at this game. This game wasn't even out yet when I was 4. It didn't come out until I was 11.. And even when it did come out, I sure as heck didn't have one at my house! I had to pay money to play this game at the arcade, where all you have to do is come out here [in the garcade], drop a quarter in (which are provided to you), and you're on your way... Trust me, you'll be better at this game than I ever was......."

It is so funny to know that from her perspective, everyone has at least one arcade game in their house, along with a jukebox, and a payphone. :D This is a true story.

Very cool story. My daughter is just shy of 18 months and will have 2 of her "own" games in her room in the next few months... Right now she is better than me at SF II... :)

Cool story. One of the best things about being a parent is seeing things through the eyes of your child.

+1 EXACTLY. I noticed I started really enjoying the holidays more after my sons were born and the experience was centered on them.

RE: kid & arcade game quotes- once when we went to the movies and the boys were around 4 and 6, my oldest spoke up and said, "this arcade isn't very good". I said, why do you say that? to which he replied, "they don't have an Asteroids here".

He missed the fact that it's from 1979, but he did have a point :)

Funny, my kids think the same thing.

My favorite was when I got the Tron running... I offered to show my kids how to play it and got the "we're not stupid, dad!" attitude. Tron proceeded to kick their ASS! :D The oldest got a score of 400, the youngest got a score of 0. They were 8 & 10 at the time...

Now they kick my ass at it.

Enjoy it now, in about 10 years you will be too stupid to possibly know anything. This lasts about 7 years, then you will be smart again.
