I am working on a S+ IGT slot machine. It had a 61 code showing. I did the procedure to clear the code and cycled the power on the machine. Now when I turn on the machine you get the lights on, reels spin, and then a "0" shows up in coins played display and the LED on the coin compriator is out. Do I have a bad coin compirator or do I have to "turn on" the coin compirator?

CC light is not lit with the door open on an S+. Just try pressing the "credit/payout" button(2nd button from left)when the door is closed... Otherwise, may be the door optic...

With the door open, push the little white button on the optic board mounted under the comparator. It should add a credit and let you pull the arm and play. If it doesn't, then you may still have an issue with the game.

A working comparator will not accept coins if there is an error still with the machine.

BTW - When you "cleared the error" of the 61, I assume you:

1) Replaced the dead battery
2) Cleared the CMOS
3) Did a SET procedure (if you have a DBV)
4) Powered up to a 61 again
5) Held white button until it changed to 61-1
6) Turned jackpot key once
7) If it turns to 35-3, push white button once so it reads 35-1. Go to Step 9
8) If it turns to 0, go to step 9.
9) Shut door. Reels should spin after a few seconds and "Insert Coin" should light up. Make sure proper coin is in the comparator and drop in a coin to see what happens...
