I just got this IGT "Double 5 times pay" machine , it's my first slot so I have no knowledge of how these work. It was set up for tokens but I put a quarter in the coin comparator so now it runs on quarters. It plays fine and everything works as far as I can tell. The only issue I can see is that it will only let me put in 3 quarters at a time. If put in more than 3 it won't give me credit for them and it also won't spit out the coins that I didn't receive credit for, I can hear them go right into the hopper. This isn't that big a deal for me when I play because I'll just keep putting in 3 coins and build credits and play off the credits. The issue is when friends and family play they'll usually try putting in more than 3 coins and then ask why they are only getting 3 credits , it's just kind of a pain to keep explaining that I don't know why it only gives 3 credits. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

the rake on the coin comparitor might have been wedge to allow coins to pass to the hopper. look on the back of it, the metal rake should be spring loaded and move. if its shimmed away from the housing, its to always allow coins straight to the hopper, rather than back to the coin tray. personally, id leave it. if it was done its because the comparitor is no good, or there is another problem.

Thanks a bunch for the information, I'll have to research and figure out what the rake is. I just finished up reading some stuff on one of the slot forums and it sounds like there's 3 different optics on the comparator. It looks like there's a way to test each optic in self test but like you said it could be the rake so I'll investigate that also.

dont mess with the optics , if there was an optics issue, you would probably get a code 21, coin error. pop off the comparitor, you will see the metal rake on the back. it basically diverts coins to the tray or the hopper. to go to the hopper, the coil moves it away from the housing. maybe someone wedge it open because coins were never making the hopper, they were going to tray.

Pinnut, you were exactly right, there was a small metal wedge behind the rake. I almost missed it because it looked like it was part of the mech but when I put a little pressure on it, it came out and the rake closed. I'll put it back so it's still playable, I guess I'll try to source a coil
for it if they are still available ? If you have anymore suggestions or a good place to get the coil or a new comparator please post them, thanks again.

might not be the coil. could possibly not be being energized by the cpu board, or a wiring issue, or a bad comparitor, or no power to the comparitor. . you could ohm out the coil to see if its open, probably its not. easiest thing would be to try another compartitor, but they arent just laying around. if you dont want to get into the weeds, and enjoy your game, id put the shim back.

Ok , I'd like to get it fixed but I'd like to figure out if it's the comparator. There are a couple of tested comparators that are the same model # on eBay for $55.-$60. Shipped. When I unplug the comparator (mech) it won't register credits but the machine is playable if you have earned credits built up. There is also a green led on the mech but it won't light up with the door open ( I think by design ? ). I put my phone camera on video , put it in the machine closed the door and confirmed that the green led lights up. I guess I'll try to confirm if the coil is bad and go from there but by what you have described accurately, the rake was wedged for a reason. It can't hurt to have an extra tested working mech on hand and it would let me figure out if the coil in the original one was bad, so I'm going to go ahead and order it while it's still available, thanks again for the help.

Even if you fix the diverter, it's a three coin game, you can't play more than three coins at a time. They should be diverter to the tray, but it will never take more than three coins if it's a three coin game.

Also, CC's should not be that much, they are usually like $10. I have milk crates full, but Untested. Check rudysdeals.com if you really want one.

Thanks for the advice, I'll check out the site you listed and snag a few extras if they are only around $10. The new comparator showed up and I just installed it and it fixed my issue. Now anymore than three quarters are diverted to the coin tray and not the hopper, so I got lucky and the original comparator was bad. I did not realize that there is a three credit limit ? I thought it was just set up that way in the settings ? Not sure what sense it makes limiting a gambler to only putting in three quarters at a time makes ? Or the reasoning behind it ? I also thought the comparators were overpriced, I couldn't find a cheap source for them. Ebay and a few gaming sites were all between $50-$80 each, tested and working. I'm just happy having the machine work correctly now. If you want to test some of your comparators I'll buy some of them off of you for $10. A piece and pay shipping, just pm me , thanks.

My comparator model # is, cc-160,24vac,4c
100 IGT rev F
