1 word, DONT!

This game has consoleidus in a huge way. Id, what the hell were you guys thinking?

If your PC is a few years old it should be fine but if its got a newer ATI/AMD or nVidia video card in it your going to want to punch your monitor. Super slow framerates, textures popping in and out, lockups, tearing... not cool.

I manged to get the game to work by turning off my second GPU (WTH?) and adding a cfg file to a steam directory but sheesh... I shouldnt have to do any of that crap. Killed the mood last night so I didnt really play the game.

So far two thumbs down.

I'll cut to the chase:

Blame China.

LOL! I dont think its their fault this time. Although my video card was built there... Hmm... Maybe your onto something.

Nah. Its Id's fault for not testing the game on newer hardware.

While the fixes are fine and dandy they (Bethesda and Id) should have checked to see that the game runs on newer hardware. Blaming the drivers is bullshit (although updating them does fix many of the issues).

I jumped through the hoops last night to get this game to a point to where it was playable, I should have had to do any of that though.

Whatever... They got my $60.00.

Dang, I wanted to play Rage. I was hoping for HalfLife in the WasteLand type game.

Will await further instruction before initiating purchase.

There are options.

PS3 and Xbox360 are two of them.

If your willing to install Beta video card drivers they will fix most of the problems (not all of them). The rest of the issues can be fixed by creating a config file and editing some of the games settings. If you've got a big monitor your really going to want to force VSYNC because the game has some really bad tearing. VSYNC is not an option in the games settings menus.

What sort of hardware do you have? Id says the game runs at 30FPS on a 9800GT.

True. Just saying at least they're addressing the issue. This is why my copy is on the PS3... no hoops!

What is "Rage"? The next Doom/Quake/Whatever?

First person shooter developed by iD (makers of doom & quake), and published by Bethesda (who also put out the Fallout and Elder Scroll games).

It's on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, and released on Tuesday 10/4.
If you order from Amazon you'll get a $10 towards your next purchase...

I don't have either a 360 or a PS3, so that's out.

I have a i7 870 CPU, 8 gig RAM, and a Radeon HD 6850. Win 7 64 bit. 2 HD's in a RAID 0 striped config.

Can I run it at a decent resolution? I can drop in a second video card via some link system if the card is too old.

And is it out on disk, or do I have to DL it from Steam or some such crapola?

With that config I'd be willing to bet that your going to have to install the new driver for your video card. Its all about the game not playing nice with newer hardware.

I run the game at 2560X1440 with the eye candy cranked and after the fixes it runs just fine on a GTX590.

You can buy it on disk or d/l via Steam. Its a big d/l though, over 8 gigs.

After some tweaking I managed to get the game to run at 60 FPS at max resolution and eye candy on. I can email the .cfg file if anyone wants it. You will need to edit a few lines like the amount of memory your video card has.

There are also command line switches that bypass the startup movies so you can get right to the game.

Well, it gets worse. The BETA nVidia driver crashed hard and now I cant launch any Steam games... I'm going back to the certified driver to see if Ican get back into the game.

Updated the game with official update and I'm no longer having issues.

Where did you get the update? I bought the game on Steam so I would assume that its automatically updated. Was just playing and stopped because of texture pops and an eventual lockup.

Turns out that it did already update and was why the .cfg file was causing it to crash so hard. I went into the video settings and found a lot more tweaks and adjustments then there was before.

So far so good fairly maxed out settings getting about 50-60FPS.
