If you have a dead G07 and don't discharge the filter cap...

You are crazeeeee . The last two I discharged went off like firecrackers. Waited a bit and discharged them again. They still had some spark. Not a lesson you want to learn the hard way.

Does anyone EVER replace that big filter cap? Does it ever go bad?

It does go bad and can cause a wave. I have replaced one. It was on a pac man so at first I thought the wave was a fuse block or edge connector issue but it was not.

I learned it the hard way. Haven't been the same since. :)

I still have two burn marks and pits on my screwdriver after the discharge. I got really close to taking it in the hand too, I felt a tingle, dropped the part, and remembered to discharge it. That experience was my first time working with a G07, but I came out of it okay.

Every time I cap a G07, I replace ALL caps. My kits come with all hi-temp caps as well. Quality brand names, like Panasonic or Nichicon .

Hey Peale, do you have the flybacks too ? Do you sell a kit similar to Bob's deluxe kit and also have the filter cap ?

I was working on a chassis and got shocked. I was bracing the board with both arms (so they were touching the metal frame around it), touched the soldering iron to a cap to desolder it and my arms felt all tingly after :D

I was done with that monitor for the day!

I do have flybacks. My "kit" comes with:

all capacitors (hi-temp, brand name)
flyback
R908

That's for a chassis without existing issues (eg, one that's already "working").

I'm currently out of horizontal output transistors until I can find a source that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

So you have 2 kits ? One for working monitors and one for non-working monitors to shotgun them ?

Let me know when you get the Hots in and how much the kits are.

Just the caps (plus R908) are $11. Yes, they're more than a Bob Roberts kit. They include ALL caps, and all HI-TEMP caps.

Flybacks are $20.

If your HOT isn't blown, this would work well for you.
