If you had to pick one "newer" Stern title...

It would be really hard for me to choose between Spiderman and Family Guy.

Family guy I love the game and theme, and I hear GREAT reviews on spiderman.

I played Indy, Iron Man and Spiderman this summer for the first time and I recall Spiderman being the one that stuck out as a bit more exciting. However the sounds of Iron Man were pretty damned cool. I didn't play any of them for too long so I don't have a "real" opinion except that Indy didn't thrill me as much as I wanted it to.

LOTR LE if you are including le editions..

If not, Ironman all the way. Love the gameplay, sounds, and feel of the game.

And I'd add a shaker to both! :)

That's a really tough decision between TSSP and LOTR for me. I have both of those, as well as Spider-Man, but TSPP and LOTR are both top 10 machines for me.

If push came to shove, I'd probably go with LOTR simply because my parents already have a TSPP as well. :D

Depending on how far back you can go and still be 'newer', I like:

LoTR - Depth, longevity, good mix of shots - it'll last in a home collection
TSPP - Depth, longevity, good mix of shots - it'll last in a home collection
Spiderman - Flow and speed

I don't have enough time on the machines from the last couple of years to have made up my mind.

Top 5, IMO. Can't go wrong w/ any of them, but they're all different enough that they'll appeal to different people for different reasons (themes aside)

Family Guy - If you like classic Lawlor games like Addams, Funhouse, Gofers.

Spider-Man - If you like Steve Ritchie games like STTNG or Mark Ritchie's ATF...it's kind of a combo of both.

Lord of the Rings - If you want a game that's and "Adventure" ...the Zelda of pinball, with so much depth you'll be trying to get further in the game for years, this is your game!

Iron Man - If you like fast, brutal "attack the player" games like BK2K....not as much depth as other modern games, but it makes up for it in pure fun and flow.

Simpsons Pinball Party - If you like a super deep game like TZ, but more colorful and w/ humor...

If sound quality is an issue, stick to the newer games on the SAM board. Not that TSPP or LOTR have bad sound...I really like those games sound packages - but FG, SM, and IM sound crystal clear..."CD quality" if you will ...while TSPP sounds more compressed - and LOTR is somewhere inbetween (Whitestar system w/ improved sound board).

i have not played iron man yet, lord of the rings would be it. spiderman is good.
and go ahead and laugh,i really like monopoly and austin powers. both fun to play.
i just played indy 500 last week and could not get into it.

That's great news for you to buy em cheap since most people don't care for either of those two titles ;)

Anyways - since the OP said only ONE then I have to go for the LOTR as well.
The game (as mentioned 1000 times already) has a deep rule set which makes it a prime candidate for a game room (longevity). It has 5 or 6 multi ball modes and is fun for all ages.
Not often you can have a game that is near impossible to beat but yet enjoyable for all experience levels.

TSPP. If you could only have one Stern, TSPP has the best rules. Since the flow sucks, you could always get a Shadow or a AFM. For me, a deep ruleset will greatly increase the longevity a game stays in the basement.

I would probably choose The Simpsons, played it a few times and it seems like a lot of fun.

If I had to do it all over again and could only get 1 I would go with either LOTR or TSPP, probably TSPP. With that said SM and FGY are also great games. I own all 4 and have had all of them for over a year, some for going on 3 years now. I don't play them all everyday but then again I don't play pinball everyday either.

TSPP and LOTR have great rulesets, and the modes are unique, so you don't find yourself shooting the same thing over and over again to complete the different modes. SM is just a fun fast game, that offers a bit of depth and different things to do. FGY has a pretty unique playfield and some fun shots, if your a fan of the show thats a big plus.

I honestly haven't really played to much of the other Stern games other then once or twice at an expo or something, so I can't give that good of an opinion on the others. The only 2 that I could think of that I might consider after playing would be IM or BDK, but I haven't had the chance to play either yet.

This thread has had a great response so far... I like all of your comments. I know its kind of a silly question...but few couple have really bubbled to the top quite quickly :)

The bad news is, I can't narrow it down to one. The good news is, you really can't go wrong with any of those. At this point, you'd probably have to go by which theme or gameplay style is your favorite.

I've posted these before- but here are some gameplay vids I made of each of these games:
