If you had a bombed out Defender cabinet, what would you do?

Very nice! Your art is far more tasteful than the other multi-williams artwork. Did you make the marquee too? Do you sell all of this stuff? What did you end up doing for the control panel overlay? I didn't see that on there.

I'm curious if anyone has managed to make a multi-williams control panel where the defender reverse button is in a good place. I vaguely remember someone mentioning modifying the joystick to make it sit in the right place. . anyone done that?

Doh! I see that you do sell the stencils. What about the marquee? Is that from somewhere else?

Im still working on the other designs I posted a pic of the marq a few weeks
back Ill see if I can dig it up
all the art Im working on is far more simplistic than what was currently done

just curious... how much would a defender cabinet/jrok multi-williams go for? Worth spending the $700 to restore my gutted-out cabinet or not? I dont think I would get $700 worth of game play out of it myself and that is how i justify my purchases.

Do you have a list of stuff that you need to restore it and how much it costs? I'd be very curious to see this since I may be doing the same thing. :)

Cabinet

If your Defender or Stargate cabinet it blown out, we sell the cnc templates for the profiles on those at our website. You can also look for them on feebay.

$50 - Jamma Harness
$50 - Power Supply
$50 - CPO
$50 - Marquee
$50 - Bezel

I lucked out a little on mine as far as prices go. I got the cabinet for free. It had been painted over and had a trivia sticker on it. I stripped the paint and repainted it using painters tape and an xacto knife to create my own "stencils" as I went. I got a monitor for $25 from the same place I got the cabinet. The marquee and bezel were about $5 each.
The expenses for me were the Arcade Shop board and the CPO.

It helped having the coinopwarehouse 45 minutes away, that's where most parts came from.

I guess, considering the costs, you have to consider if it will be a keeper or not because you might not get out of it what you put in.

I don't really plan on getting rid of any of mine, so how much it'll sell for isn't a concern. If it turned out nice, it'd be worth it to me to spend a bit of money on it.

If you are a fan of the games on the multi-williams board, then it's worth it. I think mine cost about $1000 to put together (using the Arcadeshop board) and I'm happy with that price.

The ROI on these is not good if you are planning on reselling them but for keepers don't worry about the price (as long as you can afford it)

That's definitely where I'm coming from. I don't mind spending the money on it if it turns out nice. I'm not going to get rid of it, and Defender, Stargate, Robotron, and Joust are some of my favorite games.

Sounds like a go!

The only problem with making it a multi-williams is that I don't like the control compromises, and I don't know if I want to swap out control panels to play different games. Part of me still wants a Defender/Stargate machine, and a Joust/Robotron machine that may also have a 49 way in the middle for playing Sinistar sideways. I should try Sinistar sideways in mame to see how sucky it is for it to be sideways.

I'm still not sure what art I'm doing. The simpler multi-williams stencils are pretty darn good. Defender would also be good if I decided to get a Stargate machine for the Defender/Stargate machine.

This is what I ended up doing. It is not done yet, but I will take pics soon. Basically I had an old gutted Defender cabinet that still had nice looking artwork under the woodgrain contact paper on the sides. I have made a custom control panel that looks essentially like a Defender with an extra button for Inviso. The marquee and bezel are still Defender.

I am in the process of wiring up a JROK board that will strictly play Defender and Stargate.

Here is the CPO file that I tweaked:

Then, at some point I will get my Robotron 'restored', but with a JROK to play Robotron and Bubbles (and maybe Blaster ?!? with start buttons). Joust on the other hand will be restored all to original. I have everything, it is just a matter of getting off my ass and finishing everything up.

So essentially my 'Multi-Williams' is 3 cabs. No sacrificing here, well, except space....

I played Sinistar sideways and trust me, it sucked!!! I love Sinistar and when you are use to looking at the radar at the top of the screen, it just throws you off trying to find the radar at the side. Plus, I dont think the radar was as accurate either (IMO)
