If you could create a game room promotion, what would it be?

Tournaments and high score contests need not apply. :)

What would be a good promotion that would steer you into the game room when you go to see a movie?

Matt

5 tokens for a buck, all games take 1 token, and the games are fun 2 player games that I can play with/against my kids and wife.

Two free tokens with every movie ticket sold. Some people will never use the tokens and others will get hooked and drop plenty of non-free ones.

I am not sure if giving the tokens with the ticket or a coupon redeemable at the food counter would be better. You might get more popcorn sales one way. But you might lose a lot of tokens if they don't go play them in the machines in the other.

Thanks guys. I like yellowdogs idea the best so far. I don't know how we will execute the promotion but we will figure out how to work it in.

Ditto this. There's a huge difference psychologically (to me at least) between 25 cents and 50 (or more) cents.

Fwiw I tried this in one location (still going on as a matter of fact). Head count is good but revenue is just so-so. The location is doing better then it used to but it could be doing more in my estimations. We have a TON of teenagers hanging out on Friday and Saturday nights. So long as they don't get out of hand we let them hang.

Do you advertise the fact that games are "just a quarter?" Or do they have to actually walk into the game room and look at the mechs to find that out?

Teenagers are going to loiter no matter what, but I think you may draw more people in, and thus potentially generate more repeat business, if they realize the barrier to entry is lowered.

This probably will not be a good thing since there are teenage kids giving those 2 tokens out per ticket and I am sure handfuls will be handed out to their friends, etc. Revenue will probably drop in the gameroom since the teenage kids will get tons of tokens from their friends working. Easiest way to get teenage kids, etc. in the gameroom is offer a really cheap photo booth or DDR!!

This location is in a mall next door to an arcade. Were not allowed to advertise that our games are cheaper or that we even have games. The games have to be "out of the line of sight" of mall patrons. Once they are inside of our property lines (if you can call it that) they can see that the games are there and we do have banners up displaying the 1 coin per play on all games.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep em coming!

Definitely give them a coupon for the tokens unless you want to be constantly picking up tokens off the ground.Maybe you can offer different packages for more tokens? Like a movie ticket gets you 2 tokens, movie ticket + popcorn = 4 tokens, movie ticket + popcorn + drink = 6 tokens. Something like that anyway.

This is a tough one. The majority of your income (in my experience with Regal / AMC) is coming from your core demographic already. The only way to possibly increase sales with them is to offer bonus tokens at the $5 & $10 mark but if your contract is set to pay on game play you end up eating the commission at 100%.

The ones who usually pass the game rooms are the younger kids with their parents as there really is no kid friendly games left on the market other than drivers. If you have some kid friendly games, you could talk with the theater General Manager and make a deal to offer 2 free tokens with each matinee showing on the slowest day as this is normally a dead period for the games as well. I would suggest you get color tokens for this and have an agreement with the GM that these tokens will be backed out as refund tokens for commission purposes.

Just a thought.
