I stand corrected the site must grab my up and reverse it to get location. If that's the case I can proxy that.

The site doesn't grab or reverse anything. You manually enter your location in your profile, and choose to display it.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, though. You're trying to hide your name here, but you share it openly on FB?

You could have your username here be your real name if you wanted, or you can put it in your sig, or you can share it through email/PM, etc. The point is that YOU have the choice here as to what/how much to disclose or hide. Facebook doesn't give you that option (as they need to know who you are, in order for the info they collect on you to be valuable).

But I just deleted that so somethings happening or not working properly. Also I had a great time at SFGE with ALL of my FB and KLOV and Johns Arcade bros. I'm just saying don't Sh&$ on something that does have some value. FB is not the devil, although I CAN see how it can look that way.

I don't go to SFGE never have never will.

I am not on facebook I just exploit its arcade spoils via other anonymous means where they will never know my identity. Hacks you should be aware of.

I am fully aware of what they are doing.

Those of you who are on facebook I do business with you here and there, and as Phet said, yes some of you are flakes, but I deal with it and carry on.

Phet they all know who they are. I get what you are saying. I am not sure why people are the way they are these days. People not responding to phone calls or messages is just bullshit.

I try and be as good as I can and maintain respect and ethic where it is due.

I agree with Andrew. People need to do a lot of reading and research. New Millenials want everything handed to them and spoon feed and that is bullshit that people on facebook are 30 and over.

Its millenials who created the damn beast in the first place.

Have a great day. Great thread by the way!

I don't buy it. Despite the privacy/data stuff, pretty much same people here as FB. Many of same, and morons here and there. Newbs who won't search here and there. I do agree we've f'd ourselves giving up data, etc. scary stuff.

Yes, it has value to you. However also be aware of the value that FB is taking out of you in return for hooking you on something you like, via the information they learn and share about you as an individual (and all of the things you are connected to, or are a part of in some way).

And if you think it doesn't matter, or 'you have nothing to hide', or you don't care what they know about you, etc, then you really should do more research about what they're measuring/gathering/collecting, where/what they're doing with it, and where things are headed.

In addition to affecting things like your home/auto/life insurance rates, and other real things that will affect your wallet directly, it will become trivially easy in the very near future to falsify any information about you, including voice, video, and other things that were not thought possible, using information that is mined about you from publicly posted data. Just read up on the latest research on AI and machine learning in these areas.

Taking a cavalier attitude about it is equivalent to how people didn't care about smoking in the 50's (or unprotected sex in the 70's/80's), thinking it was innocent and fun. The actual repercussions weren't realized until much later.

It may not have been innocent, but I bet it was fun.

While I agree with your point my points were in regards to Phets original post. His original post mentioned flakes. They are here too. It's the same but different and yes more sinister behind the scenes but that was not his point.

Once again that original point has been lost in a re-directing of the thread by certain people with a penchant for it :)

That's fine. FB is a bigger pond, so on one hand you're going to get more flakes, just statistically.

However KLOV is also a self-policing community, where there are consequences to being a flake (i.e., you get called out pretty quick). That's another reason why I won't sell over there, unless it's someone I already know from here. I do business with literally hundreds of people here, over thousands of transactions, and I've never once been screwed, buying or selling. And the handful of people here who do have a negative history, I know to avoid.

In a community, you usually know who you're dealing with. And if you don't, you have an easy way to check their history and reputation. FB has no kind of reputation validation system that I'm aware of (as it's really only focused on getting you to stay on the side TODAY for as long as possible), so it's much easier for scammers to thrive, and people to flake. There's far less motivation not to, as it'll all be forgotten in tomorrow's feed.

Thread back on track, Jonathan. ;)

All of social media is a dumpster fire....

I had dinner the other night with a grown ass 40 something adult using (snapchat?) filters to make himself look like a cat and shit for a hour and giggling like a tween.

People are generally f'ed in the head in 2019.

Exactly. WebMagic is mclemore's company. Not sure if it's just a shell company for KLOV at this point, but he cashed out in the early web days. I don't think he's doing any FB-level AI development and analytics these days.

We can barely get the VAPS database updated.

EDIT: It's also worth mentioning that WebMagic spawned pets.com. Do your own research on that story:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pets.com

What a legend. Our very own mclemore bought "Pets.com" back before the Internet blew up, then sold it to Amazon for a small fortune before it all collapsed, LOL

My God, I have had nothing but shit deals and seen nothing but flakey fucks over there. Since I have an arcade related page on FB, I am invited or automatically enrolled in just about every arcade group that comes around. Some are collectors of a certain genre or geographical location group, some are general arcade marketplaces. No matter which group it is, the same scenarios seem to repeat themselves. An item or items are offered for sale. I try to message the sellers, I usually hear nothing for weeks, then maybe a "sorry it's sold" after I wait a month. That's if I'm lucky. Usually, I hear absolutely nothing at all. Then if I finally do get a seller to respond favorably, I make a deal, pay for the item but never receive anything. Week after week I message the seller and get excuse after excuse until I threaten charge-back. I honestly have never seen such nonsense in my life. Of the 10 or so deals I have initiated on FB, as of this time, 0 have been completed. Ridiculous.

I do not use FB at all. I will not be apart of this calamity. Iceburg and his FB can go fuck itself !

I created a FB account just to use Marketplace for arcade stuff. I'm finding that people get apprehensive when you're trying to make deals under a blank profile. :(

Still haven't seen any deals that I 'had to' go after on there. I tried to close a deal on an old elemecha redemption machine, but the seller went on a rant about how it was just a wooden box and he shouldn't have to put a basic wrap on the game (and if the freight service doesn't wrap it that is on me for using a cheap service). And then proceeded to ask for the money now via F+F before he would waste his time discussing it any further.

I remain loyal to Friendster, and I have to say there's suprizingly very little drama. It's very quiet and peaceful actually.

Galaxy Blue Arcade and Amusement Parlor

Thank you sir, I've got it. :)

Okay.... I'll be the asshole...

Why does that bother you so much? What possible damage is he doing to your life by using that app?

Was this a business meeting? Were you closing a multi-million dollar deal for selling widgets to Pigmies in Borneo?

Sure, I might think it's "silly" of him to be using it... but I'd just shake my head, and shrug my shoulders at the fact that this guy(whom I know nothing about) is HAPPY. It may be the only moment(hour?) that week that made him smile.

Yeah, I don't see it that way. I figure if you invite someone for lunch/ dinner / whatever, you should enjoy their company, not play asshat Snapchat.

Just saying. I agree social media is a crap-filled dumpster fire. I stay clear of it. And pray for the generation that reports on whether they had a good dump or not today.

It is annoying and we are all getting old, but the bottom line is respect to others to where respect is deserved period.

It is not rocket science.

My kids do not own rectangular devices, they read and play vintage arcade games.
