My God, I have had nothing but shit deals and seen nothing but flakey fucks over there. Since I have an arcade related page on FB, I am invited or automatically enrolled in just about every arcade group that comes around. Some are collectors of a certain genre or geographical location group, some are general arcade marketplaces. No matter which group it is, the same scenarios seem to repeat themselves. An item or items are offered for sale. I try to message the sellers, I usually hear nothing for weeks, then maybe a "sorry it's sold" after I wait a month. That's if I'm lucky. Usually, I hear absolutely nothing at all. Then if I finally do get a seller to respond favorably, I make a deal, pay for the item but never receive anything. Week after week I message the seller and get excuse after excuse until I threaten charge-back. I honestly have never seen such nonsense in my life. Of the 10 or so deals I have initiated on FB, as of this time, 0 have been completed. Ridiculous.

Facebook?

Oh you mean that site where they data mine the shit out of their userbase and sell the info to all kinds of scumbags around the world?

yah fuck them.

Lesson learned, eh?
KLOV is made up of collectors. I like to think most of us have a passion for the hobby and act responsibly.
FB is made up of posers. They don't have the same ideals we have. Might be a generational thing ... not sure.

why again does anyone that's not a business/vendor use Facebook?

i know it's popular to hate on Facebook, but nearly every actual reason i've heard is valid ... so .......... ?

Welcome to the future.

It's not quite the dystopia we expected. :p

I wont buy anything from facebook unless I can pick it up, its so cheap to where im not worried if I lose the money, or its something I cant get anywhere else, in which case I can do a chargeback. My wife has had a few flakes claiming they want something and then don't bother to show up or message saying theyre not coming. I messaged a seller about a game a few weeks ago, and he never responded, tried again a few weeks later and he finally responded. Apparently his messenger was not alerting him that he had messages. When he finally checked there was a ton.

Facebook is a cesspool.

I haven't bought or sold much over there, but I do monitor the arcade groups, and will answer tech questions when they come up. I'm shocked at the average level of knowledge over there. Many people don't even know how to use a DMM, or just know any basics for the games they own (or have even read the manuals for them).

Not that it's bad to be a noob. We all were at one point. However I grew up in the early days of band-limited internet, where you were taught to always research your questions first, before posting to the group. Today, with search literally being better than it ever has, nobody wants to spend 30 seconds to search for anything anymore. They'd rather just ask their 'friends', and have it spoon fed to them (which in many cases I've seen on FB has been flat-out wrong info).

Tech is just making most people lazier and stupider. I used to be a proponent of it, but not anymore.

I just don't understand how hard it is to respond to a message, or ship out an item, or just be a decent human fucking being. I just see a lot of guys lately claiming that KLOV sucks so everyone is migrating to Facebook. "You better get on board or you'll be left behind grampa!" Why? Are you gluttons for flippant ideals and moronic political memes? (Fritz you don't need to respond) I use Facebook to keep in contact with family and friends I never otherwise get to see, but trying to conduct any business there is turning into a sloppy shirts and skins style Mexican gang bang.

AJ would disagree with you ... but read the comments for this vid .... LOL

"Bummer i would rather slit my wrists then join fb but glws!!"

Ya that's a weird thing that Facebook does. If you pm someone that you're not "friends" with, make sure you tell them "pm sent" in the original post.

who then eventually sperg out in whatever new social media platform they engage, claiming that it too - much like KLOV - "sucks".

they move on to another internet community, convincing themselves that they're happy and they've finally escaped the evils of the previous one.

the cycle then repeats.

I just see a lot of guys lately claiming that KLOV sucks

Broad cross country groups really suck, but regional/local collector groups can be great sources. We have some local pinball and arcade classified groups on Facebook for the Pacific Northwest, and I've had some good deals from there, and great interactions from other local collectors.

But trolling through general Facebook marketplace ads is gonna be hard. Lots of flakes. It's not like OfferUp with a ratings system, spam/scam reporting, etc.

The people who say KLOV sucks are the ones who got slapped here for say or doing stupid stuff (asking dumb questions, not doing research, etc). Some people might say Mr Miyagi was mean too. But he's the guy who made Daniel into a champion.

People say it can be harsh here, and it can be, if you don't follow some basic rules. It really isn't that hard. This place is a wealth of knowledge, has been around for 20 years, and will sustain.

But we also need to welcome noobs and encourage them to get into this forum (and the hobby) the right way, meaning a way that will bring long, sustaining enjoyment. People need to be encouraged to search, read, and learn. Not have things spoon fed to them.

Most people in the FB groups IMO are enjoying it like a fad, and will eventually get sick of their games breaking constantly and sell everything off (and maybe buy a nice home theater instead).

We need to welcome the facebook people back..

I will start by making them feel at home by posting a picture of what I had for breakfast.

I can also share some workout photos, inspirational quotes or vacation pics if needed.

See.. people here are just as empty and shallow as on there.

if we're really going for that Facebook vibe, KLOV needs quizzes like these, but arcade-related

What is your arcade related page? I've joined a bunch of them, but because I don't have space for more, I rarely post "updates" of my games. But I do enjoy seeing other people's home arcades, and having civilized discussions about them.
