here are some pics. I am not an experienced monitor guy, but I have never seen one that has this much stuff going on.

C'mon, you've been here long enough to know we have a monitor section.

And it's a K4600 (if a 19").....

yeah, I messed up, :O)

yeah it looks like the right id thanks.

Is this a hard one to do a cap kit on? looks complex.
I have done several cap kits, not a lot, and they mostly seem to be
4900's. sure have run into a ton of k4900's lately.

Not any more difficult than any other. I usually do the main chassis, then the daughtercards.

The fun part is pulling it out. It's best to remove the wires from the width coil and leave the width coil on the frame, as it'll probably try to break along the plastic ends that hold it in place while taking it out. The flyback has to be unbolted, though, as it's too complicated to disconnect it.

Just make sure to reflow all the connectors pins, especially those for the daughtercards (both on the chassis and on the daughtercard) and look over everything else for cold solder joints.

And for some reason a lot of people don't replace the screen pot on the left daughtercard, even though it's included in the kit. You should replace it...

ok thanks. I guess I should get a cap kit from bob roberts and get to work on it.

IT would be possible to switch out a 4900 into that frame wouldn't it? then I could wait for the cap kit and cap it later and use it as a horizontal monitor and have a nicely working 4900 right now in the vertical frame.

If you use the same tube, then you'll have to change the yoke to match the 4900.

And you'll have some trouble mounting the 4900 chassis onto the 4600 frame because the bottom piece is different. You'll need to do some creative mounting...

You might want to do a little searching. I asked that question (about swapping 4600 & 4900's) a month or so ago and the short answer was no. I don't remember the fine detail, but I seem to remember that Key L. said that it wasn't worth the effort (or words to that effect).

Easy, the 4600 frame has two one inch rails that the chassis mounts to instead of a flat plate like the 4900.

But the 4900 needs stabdoffs to hold the backside up that the 4600 doesn't have.

It's possible to remove the cross bars, then mount a 4900 mounting plate in there instead.

But I'd just fix the 4600...

Agree 100%, was just answering Ken's question about why the 4900 doesn't sit on the 4600 frame.
