If you haven't heard the news, but Luna City is up for sale: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=124570

IDEA TIME! Let's do what we can to save Luna City...

There are enough people on here who have been talking about starting a museum.

Considering how much Luna City inspired all of, if a buyer is willing to put ALL of these games in a museum, I'd be willing to buy one game for placement in the museum. The museum can keep my cut of the credits for the maintenance of the Luna City machines too.

If the museum closes down, I'd have 30 days to collect my machine or let it go up for auction.

Hopefully, this will be the best way to keep the games together and that wing of the museum could have a profile of Luna City and it's Founder.

Any takers or other ideas? Maybe a $5 raffle ticket and winner takes all?

Mathematical problems with this plan.

The asking price is approximately 1 million dollars. If we bought 5 dollar raffle tickets, we would have to sell 200,000 tickets. And I doubt there is 200,000 collectors on KLOV if 1 member bought 1 ticket.

If the tickets were 100 dollars each, we would still have to sell 10,000 tickets. I don't know how many members are on klov , but I doubt its 10,000 and I doubt all 10,000 would want a ticket.

If the tickets were 1000 dollars a piece, it would take 1000 tickets. We might have 1000 members, but I doubt we would have 1000 members willing to pay 1000 dollars to take a chance(although I just might).

And if were were wanting to buy the place by purchasing 1 game for donation to the museum, the price would have to include the house itself. Peter has said he is taking 30 some games of the 85. So if 50 games remain, the investment would be 20,000 dollars as it would pay for the building its in.

I hope all that makes sense. Its just the games haven't been priced as a collection without the current building thats housing them. And you would have to find a place to put them if they were.

Well, since some members make more, they could shell out more and therefore have a bigger stake in things.Either way, with the resourcefulness of everyone here,we should be able to come up with some sort of solution.

I think that if people are so motivated by Peter's collection, much like me, then why not start a new museum owned by the KLOV and RGVAC forum users? I don't think we can realistically purchase Peter's collection & house, but is a good thought and likely a dream we all share.
How about a central location such as St. Louis? Just my opinion. Any thoughts?

good idea is to find a cheap location. have KLOV users buy the machines. put said machines in that location. agree to keep the machines there. overhead would be:

machine purchase
+
property or rent
+
utilities

the rest is the volunteering to keep the machines running. basically a museum, but a cool one.

2000 Raflle tickets at $500 each is not that bad. I'd buy 2 for a chance at 2 acres of property and a ready built gameroom and some games. I already own 30 games myself. We all own a good collection that can be added to what remains. Plus if I am spending $500 or $1000 or $1500 to win a home, that means no mortgage payments! So that alone saves most people anywhere from $750 to $3000 a month!

Just me 2 cents.

Still kinda makes me go "hmmmmm" when the original owner is cherry picking the games. What's left, based on the list he posted in another thread, is a bunch of games that most people don't have on their want lists. In a nutshell, we're not really "saving" luna city so much as we are just buying his house and property. Takes the fun out of it.

Dollars to donuts - he'll have to sell it off piece by piece. That's probably the only way he'll make a decent financial recovery from it.

Good heart = empty wallet. While it's nice that everyone wants to help out, it's realistically a dumb idea. If you live in the area, or are looking to move to the area, then by all means, make the man an offer on his property. Otherwise, people are just wasting calories typing and thinking. There's already an arcade museum at Fun Spot and now Ottumwa wants to do one...that's probably more than enough.
