I plan on picking up my 2nd pin and I want to get some input on what that should be. Since I'm limited on space I want to make sure it's something that would rate high in playability. I don't want to waste my space, time, and money on a sub-par game. I'm looking for a Space Theme & nothing before 1980. Currently at the top of my list is Bride of Pinbot. Can someone recommend anything else similar?

If your going for a space theme, id do Star Trek the Next Generation. Not a easy pin, borg shot is real though, great game all around

I second that recommendation, especially if you are a fan of Star Trek. STTNG has voices from the characters and the game play is good. Another option is Apollo 13, though it is not as fun as STTNG (still cool). There are other options as well, especially if you allow a little bend on "space": Star Wars, Stargate, Twilight Zone (awesome pin), and Attack from Mars (excellent pin).

Thanks for some of the ideas guys. Not a Star Trek fan so I'll pass on that one. Apollo 13 and Attack would be great but price is also an issue. Both still command a high price tag. I'm looking something more in the mid $$ range.

apollo 13 is actually reasonably affordable (probably $1.5k-$2k depending on geography). AFM not so much...

ETA: doctor who? or black hole? might be options, depending on price range...

ETAA: and, duh, can't believe i didn't remember space shuttle. also likely in the more affordable range. and maybe space station, but i've never played that one.

Those are not even on the same planet, price-wise.

You should be able to find a nice Apollo 13 for the 1400-1600 range.

Attack from Mars is 6000-7000 in only decent, clean condition.

Lots of good SciFi 1500-range(+-20%) DMD choices out there:

A13
Judge Dredd
Johnny Mnemonic
Demolition Man
Jurassic Park (a super fun choice, IMHO)
Star Wars DE
Revenge From Mars (if you can go to 2000-ish)
Terminator 2

That's just off the top of my head.

Revenge from Mars. Best space theme out there.

Fixed that for you

RFM is probably the best bang-for-the-buck of any pinball machine. It's still reasonably-priced, and a big hit with every level of player (except a small faction of purist pinball snobs who seem to be allergic to video displays)

Now now, surely you can't think RFM is better than it's pappy. :) So much win on AFM, just Sunday I got DIRTY POOL for the first time after playing it for years. RFM is so short and stumpy, no long gratifying shots. I like both but AFM by miles more. Obviously, huge price difference between the two.

OP, Firepower II can be had for ~500

RFM is definitely better IMO - it has all the good features of AFM with more content, more art, more audio, better-quality audio, better animation, additional flipper buttons and a deeper ruleset. And the "long shots" are only slightly less long. The playfield for AFM is almost the same size as RFM, but due to the compact design of the cabinet RFM appears to be smaller than it really is.

I own both STTNG and RFM and I'd choose RFM over STTNG any day. And I'm a big STTNG fan. If you're not a Star Trek fan, that game isn't nearly as much fun. It's really immersive in terms of its theme, but the playfield for STTNG is brutal and unbalanced IMO. Any game where there's a good chance the ball will drain through an outlane before even getting to a flipper is one that needs some improvement.

I have had both RFM and Bride of Pinbot in the last few months. Neither lasted long, Bride is a one shot game, and RFM is just repetitive.

My current lineup is STTNG, TZ, JD, SS.

For a mid to low priced pin, I would recommend Judge Dredd all day long.

Starship Troopers? Not deep, but fun for a while. Usually not too expensive.

Too bad you don't like Star Trek. Are you sure?! Best bang for the buck in pinball. Unbelievably epic and immersive.

I also own BoP. Cons: cramped playfield and mostly a one shot game Pros: Cool, sexy vibe; awesome music and sounds; perhaps the best light show in pinball. Also, one of the coolest moments in pinball: METAMORPHOSIS
oh, and last, but not least, check this out: http://www.dutchpinball.com/

good luck,

Nice username you got there! LOL

I like both RFM and STTNG. Yea, kinda biased because I own one but it's a fun game and has plenty of modes to keep you busy. Had a blast playing RFM at CAX this year and it's on my want list.

Yes, it does have a certain ring to it...lol

Well I'm def seeing a pattern here. RFM would be awesome as I think most Pinball 2000's would be a blast to own if not for the price.
I did find someone locally and he has the following for me to consider; Starship Troopers, Space Station, & Cybernaut. He's going to check his warehouse for more and hopefully he will have some that were recommended above.

I would think twice before getting a RFM. I wanted one... since i love AFM and play that machine every week with my friends in my city. RFM was in a coffeeshop in Amsterdam so me and my friends went over there and played that machine all night. And ... i was disappointed. It's far too easy compared to AFM. And the playfield is too dark where the LCD/CRT projects it's image. I like skill shot's .. not just shooting in the dark.

And believe me .. i am not one of those guys that hate the fact it's a computer game as well. I think that is awesome. I love both worlds.

Just my 2 cents...
