I have a XXXX-in-1 and although I love it, I would love to play more fighting games on it...It has everything from Killer instinct to ring king. The problem is, even I cant remember low kick, high kick, punch etc for all the games...

I was thinking about just getting a labeler and putting labels above the buttons but that seems a little too dingy truck stop arcade game v. 1998....

Any other ideas? Changable overlays?

The majority of the fighting games break down to 2 layouts. The "Street Fighter" layout (6 buttons) and the "Neo Geo" layout (4 buttons)... if you can remember those layouts your golden.

You can offset the first two buttons on each row of three down, this gives you the Neo-Geo feel just using the first or second row and is still very playable using the SF layout, either using the six that are lined up, or even if you're using the first two that are offset (for LK and LP).

You can also go crazy and light the buttons up according to the game that's playing.

I like the light up idea...

I'm actually wondering though about labeling the buttons (high kick low kick etc) so players see what button does what...

Groovy game gear sells the spectralight pushbuttons, which come with an LED but also have a clear cap over the top part of the button. It can be taken off to insert a label. You could print onto either clear sticker paper, or printable overhead projector sheets and insert those. The downside is, the buttons are slightly convex instead of concave. The other disadvantage is the spring is too strong in them. They offer different microswitch options, but it wouldn't make a difference as you first have to overcome the spring.
